Municipal elections are scheduled to be held in the Indian state of Punjab in November 2023. [1] The elections are scheduled for 46 urban local bodies, including 5 municipal corporations and 41 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. [2]
Previously, elections for these local bodies were held in December 2017, where Indian National Congress won all the four Municipal Corporations. [3] Terms of Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar ended in January 2022, and of Ludhiana in March 2022. [4]
Delimitition of the wards started in December 2022. [2] [5] In March 2023, Punjab and Haryana High Court directed Punjab state election commission to draw schedule for elections within two weeks. [6] On 16 October 2023, election commission announced schedule for electoral rolls, with final publication for rolls scheduled for 10 November 2023. [7]
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is the municipal corporation that governs most of Delhi, India. The Batala Municipal Corporation is a nagar nigam which administers the city of Batala, Punjab. It has 50 members elected with a first-past-the-post voting system and 1 ex-officio member which is MLA for Batala. In 2019 Government of Punjab decided to upgrade Batala Municipal council into Municipal Corporation, earlier it was a municipal council.
Urban local body elections to 12 municipal corporations and 75 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in the state of Andhra Pradesh were held on 10 March 2021.
The state of Andhra Pradesh held urban local bodies elections on 30 March 2014. This included 10 Municipal Corporations, and 145 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. Elections in the remaining bodies were not held due to issues such as court cases, delays in the preparation of electoral rolls, problems in the delimitation of wards, and the creation of new bodies.
Municipal election were held in Delhi on 4 December 2022 to elect 250 councillors of Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The votes were counted and the results were declared on 7 December 2022.
The elections for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation were held on 24 December 2021. 203 candidates campaigned for 35 seats in the Chandigarh election. Election results were declared on 27 December 2021.
