The 2018 World Weightlifting Championships were held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from 1 to 10 November 2018. This was the first World Championship after the IWF changed their weight classes and nullified all world records. As a result, this World Championship saw a total of 31 senior men's world records and 41 senior women's world records set.

The 2019 European Weightlifting Championships was held in Batumi, Georgia from 6 to 13 April 2019.

Karlos May Nasar is a Bulgarian weightlifter and is one of the youngest weightlifting world record holders ever. At 17 years old, he broke the senior 81kg Clean & Jerk world record to win the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, becoming the second youngest world champion in the history of weightlifting at the age of 17 years and 214 days, only beaten by another Bulgarian - Sevdalin Marinov, who became the world champion in the 52 kg in 1985 when he was 17 years and 47 days old. At 18 years old, Karlos broke the world record again, this time in 89kg to win the gold medal in Clean & Jerk at 2022 World Weightlifting Championships, making him the only male weight lifter to hold world records in two different categories. At the 2023 European Weightlifting Championships he set five new World records in the 89kg event in one day in the Junior and Senior categories.

The 2020 Asian Weightlifting Championships were held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 16 to 25 April 2021. Originally the event was scheduled to take place from 18 to 25 April 2020 but was postponed to 16 to 25 April 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the 49th men's and 30th women's championship.

The 2021 Junior World Weightlifting Championships were held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 23 to 31 May 2021.

Stella Peter Kingsley is a Nigerian weightlifter. She represented Nigeria at the 2019 African Games held in Rabat, Morocco and she won the silver medal in the women's 45 kg event. She also represented Nigeria at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England.

The 2021 World Weightlifting Championships was a weightlifting competition held from 7 to 17 December in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The 2021 Pan American Weightlifting Championships were held in Guayaquil, Ecuador from 3 to 7 November 2021.

The 2021 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships were held at the Uzbekistan Sport Complex and Gymnastics Sport Complex in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 7 to 17 December 2021.

Rafiatu Folashade Lawal is a Nigerian weightlifter. She won the gold medal in the women's 59 kg event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England. In 2019, she represented Nigeria at the African Games held in Rabat, Morocco and she won the gold medal in the women's 59 kg event. She also won the gold medal in her event at the 2021 African Weightlifting Championships held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The 2022 World Weightlifting Championships was a weightlifting competition held in Bogotá, Colombia in December 2022. It was scheduled to be held in Chongqing, China but this changed in March 2022 as a result of COVID-19 measures in China. The new location was announced in April 2022. It was the first time Colombia hosted the World Weightlifting Championships.
