The 2024 Intercontinental Cup was the fourth edition of the Intercontinental Cup, a three-nation football tournament, typically a four-nation tournament, held at the G. M. C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium, in the Indian city of Hyderabad in September 2024. [1] The tournament was organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). India won the previous edition by a 2–0 victory over Lebanon in the final in June of 2023. [2] Syria won this edition by finishing in first place of the round-robin standings after defeating Mauritius 2–0 and India 3–0. With one goal each, Mahmoud Al-Mawas, Mahmoud Al Aswad, Daleho Irandust, and Pablo Sabbag finished as joint-top scorers of the competition. Mahmoud Al-Mawas of Syria was awarded best player of the tournament. [3]

Participating nations

The tournament is being played by teams from two different confederations in the FIFA international window from 2 to 10 September 2024. India, as host, is joined by Syria from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and Mauritius from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). [4] [5] The teams play each other in a round-robin phase, and the winner in the group stage will be the champions.

Disney+ Hotstar and JioTV have the rights to the majority of the Indian National Team's matches and they also covered the previous edition of the competition. [10] [11] On 22 August 2024, the Indian National Football Team announced that Jio Cinema would stream all of the matches live. They also announced the Sports18 3 will broadcast all of the matches. [12] There has been no news of any broadcasters covering the competition outside of India.

The match balls will be provided by Nivia Sports. The "NIVIA Shastra 2.0" will be the specific model used in the tournament. It is the first time the ball will be used for an international match. [13]

The 2018 Intercontinental Cup was a 4-nations football tournament held at the Mumbai Football Arena in the Indian city of Mumbai between 1 and 10 June 2018. The tournament was organized by the AIFF as part of the senior men's team's preparation for 2019 AFC Asian Cup. The tournament succeeded the Nehru Cup and developed post the Tri-Nation Series, where the then India head coach Stephen Constantine revealed that the intention was to hold a four-team tournament with India competing against teams from the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. India won the tournament by defeating Kenya 2–0 in the final on 10 June 2018.

The 2019 Intercontinental Cup (known as the 2019 Hero Intercontinental Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the second edition of the Intercontinental Cup, a 4-nations football tournament held at TransStadia Arena in the Indian city of Ahmedabad between the 7th and 19th of July 2019. The tournament was organized by the AIFF.

The 2023 Super Cup was the third edition of the Super Cup and the 41st season of the national knockout football competition in India. The competition was sponsored by Hero MotoCorp and known as the Hero Super Cup for sponsorship purposes.

The 2023 Intercontinental Cup was the third edition of the Intercontinental Cup, a four-nation football tournament held at the Kalinga Stadium, in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar between the 9 to 18 June 2023. The tournament was organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). North Korea won the previous edition by a 1–0 victory over Tajikistan in the final in 2019. India became the champion of this edition after defeating Lebanon by 2–0 in the final. With two goals each, Lallianzuala Chhangte and Sunil Chhetri of India were joint-top scorers of the tournament. Sandesh Jhingan of India was awarded best player of the tournament.

The 2024–25 Santosh Trophy was the 78th edition of the Santosh Trophy, the premier competition in India for senior men's football teams representing their respective states/union territories and government institutions.
