2024 Montenegrin municipal elections

Early local elections were held in Montenegro on 26 May in Budva, [1] and on 2 June in Andrijevica. [2]

Contents

Local elections were also held in Gusinje on 15 September, as well as in Kotor and the capital Podgorica on 29 September. [3]

The winning lists in the elections for Budva were unable to agree on a post-election coalition, and new elections have been scheduled for November 17.

Parliamentary elections were held in Montenegro on 30 August 2020. They were the fifth parliamentary in Montenegro since gaining its independence in 2006. Eighty-one members of the Montenegrin parliament were elected. Elections were organized in special conditions, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Montenegro. Presidential elections were held in Montenegro on 15 April 2018. Former Prime Minister Milo Đukanović, leader of the ruling DPS was elected as new President of Montenegro in the first round.

City Assembly elections were held in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, on 27 May 2018. Parties and coalitions ran for 61 seats in the Assembly, with 3% election threshold required to win seats.

Montenegrin municipal elections were held in all 23 municipalities, between March 2012 and May 2014.

In February 2019, protests began in Montenegro against President Milo Đukanović, Prime Minister Duško Marković, and the government led by the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), which has been in power since the introduction of multi-party system in 1990.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Popular Movement (Montenegro)</span> Political party in Montenegro

The Popular Movement of Montenegro, commonly known as simply Popular Movement, is a conservative regionalist political party in Montenegro, formed in February 2021 from the political alliance of the same name. The alliance, which was formed back in May 2020 prior to the August parliamentary election, ran within the common opposition "For the Future of Montenegro" list. The party also seeks to represent Serb ethnic interests. Party founder and current leader is Montenegrin-Serbian businessman Miodrag "Daka" Davidović, who is known as a great benefactor of the Serbian Orthodox Church and a longtime financier of the Montenegrin opposition during the a thirty-year long DPS-led regime in Montenegro. NP has no seats in the national parliament and is yet to contest the elections, its currently operating regionally within the country's second-largest municipality of Nikšić and its surrounding areas.

Municipal elections were held in Montenegro on 30 August 2020 in Andrijevica, Budva, Gusinje, Kotor and Tivat.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Krivokapić Cabinet</span> Government of Montenegro

The Krivokapić Cabinet was the 42nd cabinet of Montenegro. It was elected on 4 December 2020 by a majority vote in the parliament. The technocratic government was composed of URA, independents, NDCG(ZBCG) and was supported by the three parliamentary groups; Democratic Front/For the Future of Montenegro, Peace is Our Nation, Socialist People's Party.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jakov Milatović</span> President of Montenegro since 2023

Jakov Milatović is a Montenegrin politician and economist who is the incumbent president of Montenegro, serving since May 2023. He previously served as the minister of economic development in the cabinet of Zdravko Krivokapić from 2020 to 2022, and as an economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London and Podgorica. He was a co-founder and until 24 February 2024 the deputy leader of Europe Now!, a liberal and pro-European political party that is the largest single party in the Montenegrin parliament.

Parliamentary elections were held in Montenegro on 11 June 2023. Parliament had been dissolved by President Milo Đukanović just three days before the 2023 presidential elections were held, in which he lost to Europe Now! candidate Jakov Milatović.

Local elections in Serbia were held on 28 March 2021 in the municipalities of Zaječar, Kosjerić and Preševo, and on 17 October in Mionica and Negotin.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Montenegrin presidential election</span>

Presidential elections were held in Montenegro on 19 March 2023. Long-ruling incumbent president Milo Đukanović was eligible for re-election. Since no candidate received a majority of the vote, a second round vote was held on 2 April. In the first round, Đukanović, leader of the populist DPS, received 35%, coming first. Jakov Milatović, candidate of the newly formed centrist Europe Now! movement, running on an anti-corruption platform, outperformed the polls, gaining 29% of the votes and faced Đukanović in the second round. Andrija Mandić, one of the leaders of the right-wing populist DF secured 19% of the votes, finishing third in the first round. The second round runoff resulted in Milatović defeating Milo Đukanović in a landslide, becoming the first elected president not being a member of the Đukanović's DPS since introduction of the multi-party system in 1990, winning roughly 60% of the popular vote. It was the first time a runoff vote was held since the 1997 election, making it first presidential runoff since Montenegro gained independence in 2006, also the first election since 1997 where an incumbent president actively seeking reelection was denied a second term.

A small number of cities and municipalities in Serbia held local elections in 2018. These were not part of the country's regular cycle of local elections but instead took place in certain jurisdictions where either the local government had fallen or the last local elections for four-year terms had taken place in 2014.

Local elections were held in Montenegro in March and October 2022 in 13 municipalities and early elections in 2 municipalities.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 Serbian local elections</span>

Local elections in Serbia were held on 3 April 2022 in the municipalities of Aranđelovac, Bajina Bašta, Belgrade, Bor, Doljevac, Kladovo, Knjaževac, Kula, Lučani, Majdanpek, Medveđa, Sečanj, Sevojno, and Smederevska Palanka. Alongside the local elections, national-level general elections were held simultaneously on the same day.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Europe Now!</span> Political party in Montenegro

The Europe Now Movement, sometimes stylised with an exclamation mark, is a centrist political organization in Montenegro, founded in June 2022 by the former Ministers of Finance and the Economy, Milojko Spajić and Jakov Milatović, respectively. It describes itself as an economy-focused and anti-corruption movement, that is economically liberal.

On 23 October 2022, elections were held to elect members of the City Assembly of Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. Eight parties or coalitions contested for 58 seats, with a 3% vote threshold required to win seats.
