The 2024 Pac-12 Conference football season is the 46th season of Pac-12 football, and takes place during the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The season began on August 31, 2024. [1] Every member school aside Oregon State and Washington State moved to a different conference. Former members UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Washington moved to the Big Ten. Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, and Colorado moved to the Big 12. Stanford and Cal moved to the ACC. [2]

Contents

On December 5, 2023, it was announced that Oregon State and Washington State had entered into a football alliance with the Mountain West Conference (MWC) for the 2024 season. With the alliance, both programs will play 3 home games and 3 away games against MWC opponents. [3]

Previous season

The Washington Huskies defeated the Oregon Ducks 34–31 in the 2023 Pac-12 Football Championship Game. Washington defeated Texas 37–31 in the 2024 Sugar Bowl before losing to undefeated Michigan 34–13 in the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.

The CW and Fox Sports will broadcast every Pac-12 home game nationally. [4]

Coaching

On November 28, 2023, Oregon State named Trent Bray as head coach replacing Jonathan Smith who accepted the same position at Michigan State. [9]

The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was a selection system that created four or five bowl game match-ups involving eight or ten of the top ranked teams in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of American college football, including an opportunity for the top two teams to compete in the BCS National Championship Game. The system was in place for the 1998 through 2013 seasons and in 2014 was replaced by the College Football Playoff under its original four-team format.

The Oregon State Beavers are the athletic teams that represent Oregon State University, located in Corvallis, Oregon. The Beavers compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. Oregon State's mascot is Benny the Beaver. Both the men's and women's teams share the name, competing in 7 NCAA Division I men's sports and 9 NCAA Division I women's sports respectively. Kyle David Whittingham is an American college football coach and former player. He is the head football coach at the University of Utah, a position he has held since 2005, and is the all-time leader in wins at Utah. Prior to becoming the head coach at Utah, Whittingham served as Utah's defensive coordinator for ten seasons. He was named head coach of Utah after Urban Meyer left for the University of Florida in 2004. He won AFCA Coach of the Year and the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award in 2008 after leading the 2008 Utah Utes football team to an undefeated season and a win in the 2009 Sugar Bowl over the 2008 Alabama Crimson Tide football team. He and Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy are the second longest tenured FBS coaches, trailing only Kirk Ferentz.

The Oregon Ducks football program is a college football team for the University of Oregon, located in the U.S. state of Oregon. Trenton Allen Murphy is an American former professional football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Stanford Cardinal, and was selected by the Washington Redskins in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. He also played for the Buffalo Bills.

The 2015 Pac-12 Conference football season was the fifth season for the conference as a twelve-team league. The season began on September 3, 2015 with a trio of games, Arizona hosting UTSA, Utah hosting Michigan, and Hawaii hosting Colorado. The final game was the Pac-12 Championship Game at Levi's Stadium on December 5, 2015, with ESPN televising the game.

This will be the first season of the new College Football Playoff (CFP) system, with the bracket being expanded to 12 teams.
