Police were able to trace the shooter to Dequindre Estates, a mobile home community in Shelby Township, [5] based on an address at which the discarded handgun was registered, around half a mile from the scene of the shooting. A 5 hour standoff ensued as police surrounded the property. After failing to make contact with the shooter, police breached the home with drones and personnel, and discovered the shooter dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A second handgun, which the shooter committed suicide with, and a semi-automatic rifle lying on the kitchen table was recovered from the home. [7] [1] [8]

Aftermath

The last of the injured victims, a mother who has two children that were also injured, was released from hospital on July 5, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. [9] The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. [9]
