The 2024 U.S. Women's Open was the 79th U.S. Women's Open, played May 30 to June 2 at the Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. [1]
The purse for the tournament was a record $12 million. [2] The winner's share is now 20% for the Men's and Women's Open Championships, earning the Women's Open winner $2.4 million. [3]
Yuka Saso won by three strokes over compatriot Hinako Shibuno. It was Saso's second U.S. Women's Open win, having also won in 2021, her second major win, and second LPGA Tour win. [4]
The course had previously hosted the 2015 U.S. Women's Open.
The field for the U.S. Women's Open was made up of players who gained entry through qualifying events and those who were exempt from qualifying. The exemption criteria included provision for recent major champions, winners of major amateur events, and leading players in the Women's World Golf Rankings.
The USGA accepted 1,897 entries for the championship. [5]

Qualifying took place April 15 to May 20, 2024, via 36-hole stroke-play qualifiers at 26 different sites, 23 of them in the United States and one each in Germany, Canada and Japan. [7] [8]

Tee times were assigned to 134 professionals and 22 amateurs. [11] Only four players scored under par for the round, led by Yuka Saso at −2. The scoring average for the round was 75.2, more than five strokes over par. The top-10 players in the Women's World Golf Rankings averaged 75.5, including a round of 80 by top-ranked Nelly Korda, who scored a septuple bogey on her third hole (the par-3, 12th hole). Three amateurs made the top-10 including 15-year-old Asterisk Talley. [12] [13]

The U.S. Women's Open, one of 15 national golf championships conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), is the oldest of the LPGA Tour's five major championships, which includes the Chevron Championship, Women's PGA Championship, Women's Open Championship, and The Evian Championship.
The 2010 U.S. Women's Open was the 65th U.S. Women's Open, played July 8–11 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, a suburb northeast of Pittsburgh. Paula Creamer, in her fourth tournament after surgery to her left thumb, won her first major championship, four shots ahead of runners-up Na Yeon Choi and Suzann Pettersen.
The 2011 U.S. Women's Open was the 66th U.S. Women's Open, played July 7–11 at The Broadmoor East Course in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was one of 13 national championships conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA). The course is at an elevation of over 6,200 feet (1,890 m) above sea level and previously hosted the U.S. Women's Open in 1995, the first major championship won by Annika Sörenstam. Broadmoor East was the first course in the history of the tournament to play longer than 7,000 yards (6,400 m)
The 2012 U.S. Women's Open was the 67th U.S. Women's Open, held July 5–8 at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin. Na Yeon Choi won her first major championship, four strokes ahead of runner-up Amy Yang.
The 2013 U.S. Women's Open was the 68th U.S. Women's Open, held June 27–30 at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, New York. It was first time the championship was played on Long Island and marked a return to the greater New York City area, which last hosted the U.S. Women's Open in 1987. Inbee Park won her second U.S. Women's Open title, four strokes ahead of runner-up I.K. Kim. It was Park's fourth major title and third consecutive in 2013. She is the first to win the opening three majors of a season since Babe Zaharias in 1950. The event was televised by ESPN and NBC Sports.

The 2020 U.S. Women's Open was the 75th U.S. Women's Open, played December 10–14 at Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas, having been postponed from its original date of June 4–7, 2020, on April 3, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was played on both the Cypress Creek and Jackrabbit courses.
The 2021 AIG Women's British Open was played from 19 to 22 August in Scotland at Carnoustie Golf Links. It was the 45th Women's British Open, the 21st as a major championship on the LPGA Tour, and the second championship held under a sponsorship agreement with AIG, which has rebranded the championship to remove the word "British" and run as the 2021 AIG Women's Open.

The 2022 Chevron Championship was the 51st Chevron Championship LPGA golf tournament, held March 31 through April 3 at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course of Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. The tournament was in its first year with Chevron Corporation as the title sponsor and its 40th as a major championship. The Golf Channel televised the event for the 12th consecutive year.
The 2022 U.S. Women's Open Presented by ProMedica was the 77th U.S. Women's Open, held June 2 to June 5 at the Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Minjee Lee won the second of her two major titles, four strokes ahead of runner-up Mina Harigae. Ingrid Lindblad finished leading amateur at tied 11th. She beat the amateur scoring records over 18, 36 and 54 holes and tied the 72-hole amateur record in the tournament.
The 2022 AIG Women's Open was played from 4 to 7 August in Scotland at Muirfield. It was the 46th Women's British Open, the 22nd as a major championship on the LPGA Tour, and the third championship held under a sponsorship agreement with AIG. It was the first Women's British Open to be hosted at Muirfield.

The 2023 Chevron Championship was the 52nd Chevron Championship LPGA golf tournament, held April 20–23 in Texas at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, a suburb north of Houston.
