The 26th Luna Awards were held on February 8, 2009, at the Mandarin Oriental Suites and they honored the best Filipino films of the year 2007. It was delayed from September 2008 to February 2009 because the producer, Manio Events, encountered problems with sponsor solicitation. The Academy and the Film Development Council of the Philippines ended up producing the awards night. [1] [2]

The nominees were announced by Jason Abalos, Leo Martinez and Candy Pangilinan on August 29, 2008, at SM Megamall Cinema. [3] A Love Story received the most nominations with nine. Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo followed with eight. [4] [5]

The winners were announced beforehand on December 18, 2008. [6] A Love Story received most of the awards with five awards, including Best Picture. [7] [8] [9] [10]

<i>Ploning</i> 2008 Filipino film

Ploning is a 2008 Philippine romantic family drama film directed by Dante Nico Garcia, who won Best Director at the 2008 Asian Festival of First Films. Based on a popular Cuyonon song of the same title about a girl's hidden feelings, the film stars Judy Ann Santos in the title role. Filming was done in the municipality of Cuyo in Palawan, Garcia's hometown. The film was the official entry of the Philippines for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Luna Award</span> Award

The Luna Awards are awards given annually by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) to recognize the outstanding achievements of the Filipino film industry. The first awards were presented in 1983 in Pasay. It is considered to be the Philippine counterpart of the Oscars. It used to be known as the FAP Awards until in 2005 when it got its current name. Since 2007, the Academy started holding simple awards ceremonies due to lack of government funding and reduction of its share from MMFF earnings. This also caused some delays for ceremony scheduling.

The 29th Luna Awards were held on July 10, 2011, at the Quezon City Sports Club and they honored the best Filipino films of the year 2010. It was held together with the 27th Luna Awards.

The 25th Luna Awards were held on December 27, 2007 at Club Filipino and they honored the best Filipino films of the year 2006. It was delayed due to lack of government funding.
