Jose "Joey" Javier Reyes (born October 21,1954) is a Filipino director,screenwriter,lyricist, [1] [2] and actor. He has won awards at the Gawad Urian,Metro Manila Film Festival and Filipino Star Awards for Movies for his films,which include Pahiram ng Isang Umaga, Batang PX and Kasal,Kasali,Kasalo . He also wrote the screenplay for Filipino blockbuster Four Sisters and a Wedding from which a Filipino meme featuring Bea Alonzo was sourced. Javier Reyes is the uncle of Mark A. Reyes.
Joey Reyes graduated from De La Salle University in Manila,Philippines from the College of Liberal Arts. During his stay as an undergraduate he was already a director and writer for the university's theatre guild - Harlequin Theatre Guild. Reyes also finished his master's degree in English Education from the De la Salle University Graduate School and has taken courses leading to his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at the University of Santo Tomas. He was the recipient of a Doctoral Enrichment Program grant through the Fulbright-Hayes Foundation where he took doctoral courses in Comparative Literature and Folklore Studies at Indiana University,Bloomington. He also serves as a Professorial Lecturer at the Department of Communication,De la Salle University and sits as Chairman of the AB Film Program at the Design and Arts Campus at the De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde.
He is also the Head of Competition and Monitoring Committee of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. He also sits as the Head of the Student Short Film Competition of the MetroManila Film Festival while sitting as part of its Education Panel. [4] there teaching under the Communication Department and holding classes for the Communication Arts majors of the university.
His first writing for a film was Oro,Plata,Mata in 1982,which is being streamed on Netflix. [5]
He wrote the libretto of the musical Katy,based on the life and times of Philippine Jazz Queen,Katy de la Cruz. He penned the original song,"Minsan ang Minahal ay Ako" for the musical with music composed by National Artist,Ryan Cayabyab. He also wrote the hit song,"Iisa Pa Lamang" sung by Joey Albert with music by Danny Tan. He also wrote the lyrics of the Christmas song,"Kumukutikutitap" with music also by Cayabyab. [6]
On April 11,2024,Reyes took his oath as the new chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP),succeeding Tirso Cruz III who resigned in early March. [7] [8]

The San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra (SMPO) was one of the two major performing arts groups (along with the San Miguel Master Chorale) under the San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts. As a young ensemble,its wide selection of works encompassing musical genres attests to its versatility and dynamism. Together with the SMMC,the SMPO aspired to produce and perform new orchestral works that will ensure the growth and development of Filipino music.
The San Miguel Master Chorale (SMMC),now non-existent,was the first professional choir in the Philippines. It was composed of an all-Filipino roster ranging from faculty members and honor graduates of music conservatories,alumni of various choirs,choral conductors,composers,arrangers,and soloists.
Raymundo Cipriano Pujante Cayabyab,known professionally as Ryan Cayabyab,is a Filipino musician,composer and conductor regarded as one of the pillars and icons of Original Pilipino Music (OPM). He was the Executive and Artistic Director for several years for the defunct San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts. He was named National Artist of the Philippines for Music in 2018.
The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is an annual film festival organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority and held nationwide in the Philippines. The festival,which runs from Christmas Day through New Year's Day and into first weekend of January in the following year,focuses on Filipino produced films. During the course of the festival,movie theaters show only films that are approved by its jurors and exclude foreign films except in 3D theaters and IMAX theaters. It is one of the two Filipino major film festivals to exclude foreign films in a week-long period,the other being the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino happening during August.
Jose Lorenzo "Pepe" Diokno is a Filipino film director,producer,and screenwriter. He received the Lion of the Future Award for Best Debut Film and the Orizzonti Prize at the 2009 Venice Film Festival,and was awarded Best Director at the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Shake,Rattle &Roll (SRR) is a Filipino horror anthology film series produced by Regal Entertainment,and formerly Athena Productions. Started in 1984,it was the longest-running film series in the Philippines. The series consists of 16 films,each containing three horror segments that involve Philippine mythological creatures and other monsters. All films of the series were official entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival,with the exception of the sixth and sixteenth installments,which premiered in January 1997 and November 2023 respectively. The title is based on the song of the same name.
Maurice Gallaga,better known as Peque Gallaga,was a multi-awarded Filipino film-maker. His most significant achievement in film was Oro,Plata,Mata,which he directed after winning a scriptwriting contest sponsored by the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines. He has received an award from the International Film Festival of Flanders-Ghent,Belgium in 1983;a Special Jury Award from the Manila International Film Festival;and the 2004 Gawad CCP para sa Sining.
Kasal,Kasali,Kasalo is a 2006 Filipino romantic comedy film written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes and it was based on a written screenplay by Mary Ann Bautista. It was an official entry for the 2006 Metro Manila Film Festival. It stars the real-life couple,Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo as Angie and Jed and also starring Gina Pareño,Gloria Diaz,and Ariel Ureta.
The Metro Manila Popular Music Festival was launched by the Popular Music Foundation of the Philippines in 1977 and held annually from 1978 to 1985. It was "the country's pioneering and once foremost songwriting competition," according to The Philippine Star. Its objective was to promote the advancement of Filipino music,and its chief proponents were journalist Teodoro Valencia and Imee Marcos. Oro,Plata,Mata is a 1982 Philippine historical war drama film co-written and directed by Peque Gallaga. The screenplay written and adapted by JoséJavier Reyes was based on the story developed by Gallaga,along with Mario Taguiwalo and Conchita Castillo. The film is considered to be Gallaga's most significant contribution to the Philippine cinema. Set in the Philippine island of Negros during World War II,it tells the story of how two hacendero families cope with the changes brought about by the war. In translation,the movie is also known either as "Gold,Silver,Bad Luck" or "Gold,Silver,Death."

Daniel Surian Tan,simply known as Danny Tan,is a Filipino musician known for his songwriting and musical directing for the Philippine movie,television,theatre,and recording industries. He is associated with Ryan Cayabyab,Raul Mitra,and Regine Velasquez. He was a student of National Artist Lucio San Pedro at the University of the Philippines College of Music. He was among those Filipino artists commissioned for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games opening performance,under the direction of Floy Quintos.
