MMFF chronology

The 40th Metro Manila Film Festival was the edition of the annual film festival that is held in Metro Manila, Philippines and is organized by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). During the film festival, no foreign films are shown in Philippine cinemas and theaters (except IMAX theaters) in order to showcase locally produced films. The film festival began on December 23, 2014 and was kicked off by the yearly Parade of Stars' float parade starting from the Quirino Grandstand. [1] It is expected to run until January 7 of the following year.

The awards night commenced on December 27, 2014 at the Philippine International Convention Center, and was hosted by Edu Manzano and Kris Aquino. [2] It was also aired via delayed telecast on ABS-CBN.

It stars Vice Ganda in the title role, alongside Eddie Garcia, Nikki Valdez, Vandolph Quizon, Derek Ramsay, and Jimmy Santos in their supporting roles. It is based on the 1980 comedy film Private Benjamin. A sequel, The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin, was released in 2014.

Mga Kwento ni Lola Basyang was a withdrawn fantasy action-adventure film produced by Unitel Productions. The film is composed of two stories, "Pedrong Walang Takot" and "Mariang Alimango" derived from the short stories of Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang written by Severino Reyes. The film would have been directed by Mark Meilly, and Chris Martinez. The film also would have starred Richard Gomez, Paolo Contis, Sam Concepcion, Iza Calzado, Rufa Mae Quinto, Empress Schuck and Zsa Zsa Padilla. It was one of the 8 official entries for 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival but later on, the film sent a request letter to MMDA to pull out of the festival. On October 19, the film was replaced by Thy Womb.

The Metro Manila Film Festival Award for Best Picture is an award presented annually by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). It was first awarded at the 1st Metropolitan Film Festival ceremony, held in 1975; the film Diligin Mo ng Hamog ang Uhaw na Lupa starring Joseph Estrada received the award and it is given in honor of the film that has delivered an outstanding creation of the film, including directing, acting, music composing, writing, editing and other efforts put forth into a film. The category was first named "Best Film" before changing it to "Best Picture" in 2007. The film is one of the official entries to the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival. Vice Ganda reprised his role as Colonel Benjamin "Benjie" Santos VIII together with a supporting cast Richard Yap, Tom Rodriguez, Bimby Yap and introducing Alex Gonzaga with the special participation of Eddie Garcia.
