The 2nd Grand National Assembly of Turkey existed from 29 October 1923 to 1 September 1927. Actually the parliament members were elected on 11 August 1923, before the Republic was proclaimed on 29 October.

There were 333 MPs in the parliament all of which were the members of the People’s Party (later renamed Republican People's Party) (CHP). [1] But later 30 of them issued from CHP to serve in Progressive Republican Party (TCP).

The one-party period of the Republic of Turkey began with the formal establishment of the country in 1923. The Republican People's Party (CHP) was the only party between 1923 and 1945, when the National Development Party was established. After winning the first multiparty elections in 1946 by a landslide, the Republican People's Party lost the majority to the Democratic Party in the 1950 elections. During the one-party period, President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk repeatedly requested that opposition parties be established to stand against the Republican People's Party in order to transition into multi-party democracy. Kâzım Karabekir established the Progressive Republican Party in 1924 but it was banned after its members' involvement in the 1925 Sheikh Said rebellion. In 1930 the Liberal Republican Party was established but then dissolved again by its founder. Despite Atatürk's efforts to establish a self-propagating multi-party system, this was only established after his death in 1938.

The Progressive Republican Party was a political party in Turkey between 1924 and 1925. It was established by Ali Fuat (Cebesoy) Pasha, Kâzım Karabekir, Refet (Bele) Pasha, Rauf (Orbay) Bey and Adnan (Adıvar) Bey on 17 November 1924. The party was banned on 5 June 1925 after the Sheikh Said rebellion.

Ali Fethi Okyar was a Turkish diplomat and politician, who also served as a military officer and diplomat during the last decade of the Ottoman Empire. He was also the second Prime Minister of Turkey (1924–1925) and the second Speaker of the Turkish Parliament after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The 3rd Grand National Assembly of Turkey existed from 2 September 1927 to 4 May 1931.

The 8th Grand National Assembly of Turkey existed from 21 July 1946 to 22 May 1950. There were 499 MPs in the parliament. 66 of them were the members of newly founded Democrat Party (DP) and 8 of them were independents. The rest were the members of the Republican People’s Party (CHP)).

The 12th Grand National Assembly of Turkey existed from 15 October 1961 to 1o October 1965. Actually there is one other parliament between the 11th Parliament of Turkey and the 12th parliament of Turkey. But the members of the chamber of deputies in 1960–61 term were appointed members rather than elected members and usually chamber of deputies is not included in the list of the parliaments in Turkey. According to the new constitution, there were two houses in the parliament. There were 450 MPs in the lower house ; Republican People's Party (CHP) with 173 MPs, Justice Party (AP)with 158 MPs, New Turkey Party (YTP) with 65 MPs and Republican Villagers Nation Party with 54 MPs. Since no party was able to win the majority of seats, this term witnessed four coalition governments.

Independent Group was an opposition group in the Turkish parliament between 1939-1946.

The 5th cabinet of executive ministers of Turkey was the fifth government formed by the nationalists after the Turkish War of Independence. The Republic was not yet proclaimed and the government was called İcra vekilleri heyeti
