Novelist Jonathan Lethem was selected as the guest director of the event. [2] As the guest director, Lethem served as a key collaborator in the festival programming decisions. Telluride honored Alfonso Cuarón, Emma Stone, and Rithy Panh as the Silver Medallion winners. [3]

Below is a list of each guest director followed by the films the director specifically chose to highlight.

The Maryland Film Festival is an annual five-day international film festival taking place each May in Baltimore, Maryland. The festival was launched in 1999, and presents international film and video work of all lengths and genres. The festival is known for its close relationship with John Waters, who is on the festival's board of directors and selects a favorite film to host within each year of the festival.

<i>Roma</i> (2018 film) 2018 film by Alfonso Cuarón

Roma is a 2018 drama film written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, who also produced, shot, and co-edited it. Set in 1970 and 1971, Roma follows the life of a live-in indigenous (Mixteco) housekeeper of an upper-middle-class Mexican family, as a semi-autobiographical take on Cuarón's upbringing in the Colonia Roma neighborhood of Mexico City. The film stars Yalitza Aparicio and Marina de Tavira in the leading roles. It is an international co-production between Mexico and the United States.

The 2020 Toronto International Film Festival, the 45th event in the Toronto International Film Festival series, was held from September 10 to 21, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Toronto, the festival took place primarily on an online streaming platform, although limited in-person screenings still took place within the constraints of social distancing restrictions.

The 46th Telluride Film Festival took place from August 30 to September 2, 2019, in Telluride, Colorado, United States.

The 47th Telluride Film Festival was scheduled to take place on September 4–7, 2020. In May 2020, it was announce that the festival would kick off a day earlier on September 3 for safety purposes. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Colorado, the festival announced its cancellation on July 14, 2020. Telluride was due to honor the Silver Medallion to Chloé Zhao, Anthony Hopkins, and Kate Winslet.

The 48th Telluride Film Festival took place from September 2–6, 2021 in Telluride, Colorado, United States. After the cancellation of the previous year's event due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Colorado, the festival required proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours and masks worn indoors to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The 44th Telluride Film Festival was held on September 1–4, 2017, in Telluride, Colorado, United States.

The 43rd Telluride Film Festival took place on September 2–5, 2016, in Telluride, Colorado, United States.

The 42nd Telluride Film Festival took place on September 4–7, 2015, in Telluride, Colorado, United States.

The 49th Telluride Film Festival took place September 2–5, 2022. In June 2022, it was announced that the festival would receive the dissident Russian filmmakers Kantemir Balagov and Kira Kovalenko as Guest Directors "as key collaborators in the Festival's programming decisions, bringing new ideas and overlooked films to Telluride". In July 2022 it was announced that author, artist, graphic novelist and publisher Leanne Shapton would design the annual poster for the 49th edition.

The 41st Telluride Film Festival took place on August 29–September 1, 2014, in Telluride, Colorado, United States.
