The 48th International Film Festival of India was held on 20 to 28 November 2017 in Goa. "Celebrating the Future of Cinema" was set as the festival's theme and registrations were opened in early October 2017. [1]

Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh, who was appointed head of the jury of the Indian panorama section, resigned from the position on 14 November after alleging that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, that co-organizes the festival, dropped two films S Durga and Nude from screening in the Indian Panorama section, despite being chosen by the jury and without consulting them. [2] [3] Two other members Apurva Asrani and Gyan Correa quit the jury the following day. [4]

Bond Retrospective

Nine James Bond films were chosen to be featured to celebrate "over 50 years of James Bond's legacy". [10]

Committees

Three committees — Preview, Steering and Technical — were constituted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting prior to inviting films for the festival. The Preview Committee, headed by filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri was set up to shortlist films for the festival. Filmmakers Jahnu Barua and Nagesh Kukunoor were named conveners of the Steering and Technical Committees. [11]

Multiple National Film Awards winner Actor-Director, Kaushik Ganguly is known for making films that explore various aspects sexuality, like Ushnatar Janye (2003), which deals with a lesbian relationship, and Arekti Premer Golpo (2010), which examines transgender identity & Nagarkirtan (2017), an LGBTQ Movie. In 2019, Film Companion ranked Ridhi Sen's performance in Nagarkirtan which was directed by Ganguly, among 100 Greatest Performances of the decade.

The 54th International Film Festival of India opened on 20 November 2023 with Catching Dust by Stuart Gatt in Goa. Shekhar Kapur an Indian filmmaker served as chairperson of the international jury. This year a new award category Best Web Series Award was introduced in the festival. 32 entries in 10 languages from 15 Over-the-top media service platforms were selected to compete for this award.
