The IFFI ICFT UNSESCO Gandhi Medal is an international honor instituted since the 46th International Film Festival of India. [1] [2] The annual award is presented to an outstanding film which promotes peace and inter-cultural dialogue. [3] [4] [5]

History

In the year 1994, UNESCO issued a commemorative medal, marking the 125th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. [6] Subsequently, since 2015, ICFT, the UNESCO international advisory body on all matters concerned with film, television and news media, headquartered in Paris France, in collaboration with International Film Festival of India, honors the commemorative Fellini Award to an outstanding film that best reflects Mahatma Gandhi's ideals of peace, tolerance and non-violence. The International Jury was headed by the chairperson, Shekhar Kapur along with UK based director, Micheal Radford, Palestinian based Israel director, Ms. Suha Arraf, German Actress, Julia Jentsch and South Korean filmmaker Jeon Kyu-Hwan. The 13-member Feature Jury was headed by Chairperson, Aribam Syam Sharma, while the 7-member Non-Feature jury was led by Chairperson, Rajendra Janglay.

The 49th International Film Festival of India was a film festival held from 20 to 28 November 2018 in Goa. In the 49th event new sections such as "Sketch on Screen ", "A Retrospective of Masters" are inculcated. 212 films were being showcased during the event, with Israel being the country of focus.

Praveen Morchhale is the winner of India's 65th National Film Awards 2017 as well as ICFT-UNESCO GANDHI Medal 2018 winner film director, producer and screenwriter, who works in Indian cinema. Morchhale is hailed by critics as an important filmmaker of the Indian new wave.

<i>Baaram</i> Indian film

Baaram is a 2020 Indian Tamil-language film written, directed and edited by Priya Krishnaswamy. Produced by Priya Krishnaswamy and Ardra Swaroop under their banner, Reckless Roses, it won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil in 2019, the only Tamil film to win at the 66th National Film Awards. It also won the Special Jury Award at the Pondicherry International Film Festival, 2019, and the Best Feature Film award at the South Asian Film Festival, Montreal, 2021. Baaram was presented by Grass Root Film Company and Vetri Maaran, and released in Indian theatres on 21 February 2020. In March 2020, it began streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

<i>200 Meters</i> (film) 2020 Palestinian film

200 Meters is a 2020 Jordanian-Palestinian adventure drama film written and directed by Ameen Nayfeh in his feature-length debut. The film premiered in the 17th edition of the Giornate degli Autori section at the 77th Venice International Film Festival on 9 September 2020, where it won the BNL People's Choice Audience Award. It was selected as the Jordanian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. It won the IFFI ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal at 51st International Film Festival of India in January 2021.

The 51st International Film Festival of India was held from 16 to 24 January 2021 in Goa. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the festival went hybrid, there was physical and virtual screening of 50 films out of 224 films across various categories. Bangladesh was country of focus in the festival with four films of the country included in 'country of focus' section.

Like 51st edition this edition was also held in hybrid format, that combined online and face-to-face participation. BRICS Film Festival is being held alongside main festival, in which films from BRICS nations, namely Brazil, Russia, South Africa, China and India are showcased. These five countries are 'country of focus' in the 52nd edition of the festival.

The IFFI Award for Best Debut Director is an honor presented annually at the International Film Festival of India since the 47th IFFI 2016 for the best debut film direction in World cinema.

The IFFI Special Jury Award and Special Mention are the two honors presented annually at the International Film Festival of India for excellency in Film Art in World cinema. It was first presented during the 4th IFFI 1969. The award was later re-instated since 29th IFFI 1998. On the occasion of 100 years of Indian cinema, Centenary Awards were conferred during 2012, 2013, and 2014. The Special Mention being awarded since the 46th IFFI 2015.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">54th International Film Festival of India</span> 2023 Indian film festival

The 54th International Film Festival of India opened on 20 November 2023 with Catching Dust by Stuart Gatt in Goa. Shekhar Kapur an Indian filmmaker served as chairperson of the international jury. This year a new award category Best Web Series Award was introduced in the festival. 32 entries in 10 languages from 15 Over-the-top media service platforms were selected to compete for this award.
