The 51st NAACP Image Awards , presented by the NAACP, honored outstanding representations and achievements of people of color in motion pictures, television, music, and literature during the 2019 calendar year. The ceremony took place on February 22, 2020, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium [1] and was broadcast for the first time on BET - as well as simulcast on several of its sister ViacomCBS networks, moving to the former after broadcasts on TV One in previous years. [2]
During the ceremony Rihanna was awarded with the President's Award for "her fundraising efforts with various charities, disaster relief and education abroad—efforts", [3] and John Lewis was awarded with the Chairman's Award "in recognition of his lifelong dedication of protecting human rights and securing civil liberties".

This article lists the winners and nominees for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Motion Picture, awarded by the U.S.-based National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). This award has been given since 1972 and as of 2017, only two of the winning films have also won the Academy Award for Best Picture: Crash and 12 Years a Slave.
Evan Bogart, better known as E. Kidd Bogart, is an American songwriter, music publisher, record executive and film & television producer. He is the son of Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart and former music manager Joyce Bogart Trabulus (KISS). Bogart's music has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, winning one, and he currently serves as National Trustee for The Recording Academy and Chair of their Songwriters & Composers Wing.

Melina Matsoukas is an American music video, film, commercial and television director. She is a two-time Grammy Award winner and four-time MTV Video Music Awards winner for her "We Found Love" and "Formation" music videos. She was honored with the Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal by the American Film Institute in 2019. Her directorial debut in film was Queen & Slim, starring Jodie Turner-Smith and Daniel Kaluuya, and written by Lena Waithe. She then worked as executive producer and director for television series Insecure, being nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2020.
Cadillac Records is a 2008 American biographical drama film written and directed by Darnell Martin. The film explores the musical era from the early 1940s to the late 1960s, chronicling the life of the influential Chicago-based record-company executive Leonard Chess, and a few of the musicians who recorded for Chess Records.
Cadillac Records: Music from the Motion Picture is a soundtrack album for the film Cadillac Records. It features covers of classic songs from Chess Records' singers as performed by the film's actors including Beyoncé, Eamonn Walker and Jeffrey Wright. It also features original songs from contemporary artists such as Beyoncé's sister, R&B singer Solange Knowles and rapper Nas. The soundtrack has been released in single and double-disc editions.

Melissa Viviane Jefferson, known professionally as Lizzo, is an American rapper and singer. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she moved to Houston, Texas, with her family at the age of ten. After college, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she began her recording career in hip hop music. Prior to signing with Nice Life Recording Company and Atlantic Records, Lizzo released two studio albums, Lizzobangers (2013) and Big Grrrl Small World (2015). Her first major-label extended play (EP), Coconut Oil, was released in 2016.
Beyond the Lights is the original soundtrack to the 2014 film, Beyond the Lights. It was released on November 10, 2014, through Relativity Music Group and consists of contemporary R&B and soul. The soundtrack includes songs performed by the film's fictional characters Noni and Kid Culprit, in addition to the Academy Award-nominated song, "Grateful", performed by Rita Ora and written by Diane Warren. The song subsequently also received a nomination at the 2015 Black Reel Awards.
Courtney Shanade Salter, known professionally as Ari Lennox, is an American R&B singer from Washington, D.C. She is the first female artist to be signed to J. Cole's record label, Dreamville Records. She began gaining recognition after the release of her first EP Pho (2016) on the label. That same year, she made an uncredited guest appearance on J. Cole's song "Change". Lennox's debut studio album Shea Butter Baby followed in 2019.

The Lion King: The Gift is a soundtrack album created by American singer-songwriter Beyoncé from Disney's 2019 photorealistic computer-generated imagery remake of The Lion King and for Black Is King (2020). It was released on July 19, 2019, by Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. The album was also produced by Beyoncé and features artists such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Busiswa, Moonchild Sanelly, and Salatiel, as well as appearances from Jay-Z, Blue Ivy Carter, Childish Gambino, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, Tierra Whack, 070 Shake, and Jessie Reyez, among others.
The 2019 Soul Train Music Awards took place on November 17 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and aired live for the first time on BET and BET Her. It was hosted by Tisha Campbell & Tichina Arnold, for the first time in the awards ceremony history from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. She rose to prominence after being featured on Wizkid's 2020 single "Essence", which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber. The song earned her a Grammy Award nomination. That same year, she was featured on the song "Fountains" by Drake.
The Color Purple is a 2023 American musical period drama film directed by Blitz Bazawule. Marcus Gardley's screenplay is based on the stage musical of the same name, which in turn is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker. It is the second film adaptation of the novel, following the 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Spielberg and Quincy Jones. Spielberg and Jones return as producers for the 2023 film, along with its Broadway producers Scott Sanders and Oprah Winfrey, the latter of whom also starred in the 1985 film.

The NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance– Television or Film arose as a category in 2016, and was awarded until 2021, when the award was split to honor film and television performances separately. Prior to this category, voice-over performances in animated works were typically nominated and honored in the Outstanding Youth Performance category.
