The 54th NAACP Image Awards , presented by the NAACP, honored outstanding representations and achievements of people of color in motion pictures, television, music, and literature during the 2022 calendar year. The ceremony was hosted by Queen Latifah and aired on February 25, 2023, on BET and simulcast on several of its sister Paramount Global Networks along with Paramount+. [1] [2] Presentations of untelevised categories was livestreamed from February 20 to February 24, 2023, on the ceremony's website. [3]
The nominations were announced on January 12, 2023, with the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever leading the nominations with twelve nods, followed by the television sitcom Abbott Elementary which led the television categories with nine nominations. [4] [5] In the recording categories, Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar lead the nominations with five each. [6] For the first time in the history of the awards ceremony, three categories were added to reward Outstanding Hairstyling, Outstanding Make-Up and Outstanding Costume Design in film and television. [7]

The NAACP Image Awards is an annual awards ceremony presented by the U.S.-based National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to honor outstanding performances in film, television, theatre, music, and literature. The over 40 categories of the Image Awards are voted on by the NAACP members. Honorary awards have also been included, such as the President's Award, the Chairman's Award, the Entertainer of the Year, the Activist of the Year, and the Hall of Fame Award. Beyoncé is the All-Time leading winner with 25 wins as a solo artist.

Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story is an American biographical musical drama film directed by Denise Dowse and written by Ericka Nicole Malone. The film stars Ledisi as gospel singer and activist Mahalia Jackson. Also starring Columbus Short, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Janet Hubert, Vanessa Williams, Corbin Bleu and Keith David. It premiered at the 2022 Pan African Film & Arts Festival in Los Angeles in April 2022. The film later premiered on Hulu on September 20, 2022.
