The 6th Abia State House of Assembly Ended on 6 June 2019 after the House Valedictory Session Presided over by the Former Speaker Rt. Hon Chikwendu Kalu. Formed after an election in April 2015 and inaugurated on 11 June 2015, [1] the Representatives of the Assembly were elected from 24 constituencies with the majority being members of the People's Democratic Party. [2] The last elected Speaker was Chikwendu Kalu representing Isiala Ngwa South Constituency. [3]

Abia State is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, it is bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Enugu, and Ebonyi, Imo State to the west, Cross River State to the east, Akwa Ibom State to the southeast, and Rivers State to the south. It takes its name from the acronym for four of the state's most populated regions: Aba, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Afikpo. The state capital is Umuahia while the largest city and commercial centre is Aba.

Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe is a Nigerian politician who was elected to the Abia-South Senatorial District of Abia State in the Senate of Nigeria in April 2007. He holds the title Nwadiohanma Ngwa. Enyinnaya is an outspoken senator often contributing to debates on national issues. He is a member of the major opposition People's Democratic Party, PDP in the Nigerian senate. He is currently the Minority leader in the senate.
Nnenna Ijeoma Elendu Ukeje is the former representative for Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, Nigeria. She was re-elected to this position on 29 May 2011 and also served as the Chairman house committee on foreign affairs. In the 2015 general elections she was also re-elected to the house of representative & once again appointed as the house committee chairman on foreign affairs. In 2019, she was replaced by Benjamin Kalu.
Eric Iheanacho "Acho" Nwakanma is a Nigerian politician, businessman and philanthropist, who served twice as the 4th and then the 6th Deputy Governor of Abia State, Nigeria on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from 2006 to 2007 under Governor Orji Uzor Kalu and again under Governor Theodore Orji from 2010 to 2011.

He is currently the spokesperson of the House of Representatives and the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.
The 2023 Abia State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Abia State, concurrent with elections to the Abia State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
