82 Armoured Regiment is an armoured regiment of the Indian Army.
The regiment was raised on 1 October 1975. The first commandant was Lieutenant Colonel (later Lieutenant General) Moti Dar of the Poona Horse. [1] [2] It has an all-India, all-class composition, drawing troops from various castes and religions. [3]
Lieutenant General JS Sandhu is the current Colonel of the Regiment. [4]

The cap badge of the regiment consists of a winged lion and a scroll at the base with the Regimental Motto in Devanagari script. [11]
The Poona Horse is an armoured regiment in the Armoured Corps of the Indian Army. The regiment, known before independence as The Poona Horse, was raised as a regular cavalry regiment in the Bombay Presidency army of the East India Company. It was formed from the 3rd Regiment of Bombay Light Cavalry, raised in 1820, and the Poona Auxiliary Horse, raised about 1817–18. The latter unit was absorbed into the regular forces about 1860 and the two regiments later became the 33rd Queen Victoria's Own Light Cavalry and the 34th Prince Albert Victor's Own Poona Horse.

General Manoj Mukund Naravane, is a retired Indian Army General who served as the 27th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), as well as the temporary Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee from 15 December 2021 until his superannuation on 30 April 2022. He took over as COAS from General Bipin Rawat on 31 December 2019 after the latter completed his term. Prior to his appointment as the COAS, the general served as the 40th Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) of the Indian Army, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Eastern Command and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Army Training Command.
