The A-Combination (Dutch : A-Combinatie) is a political alliance in Suriname.

Dutch language West Germanic language

Dutch(Nederlands ) is a West Germanic language spoken by around 23 million people as a first language and 5 million people as a second language, constituting the majority of people in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is the third most widely spoken Germanic language, after its close relatives English and German.

A political alliance, also referred to as a political coalition, political bloc, is an agreement for cooperation among different political parties on common political agenda, often for purposes of contesting an election to mutually benefit by collectively clearing election thresholds, or otherwise benefiting from characteristics of the electoral system or for government formation after elections. These may break up quickly, or hold together for decades becoming the de-facto norm, operating almost as a single unit.

Suriname Country in South America

Suriname, officially known as the Republic of Suriname, is a country on the northeastern Atlantic coast of South America. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, French Guiana to the east, Guyana to the west and Brazil to the south. At just under 165,000 square kilometers, it is the smallest sovereign state in South America. Suriname has a population of approximately 558,368, most of whom live on the country's north coast, in and around the capital and largest city, Paramaribo.

History

The A-Combinatie was formed in 2005 as an alliance of Brotherhood and Unity in Politics (BEP), the General Liberation and Development Party (ABOP) and Seeka, [1] and represented the Maroons. [2] The alliance received 7% of the vote in the 2005 general elections, winning five seats. Although its vote share fell to 5% in the 2010 elections, it retained all five seats. [3] However, in 2012 the BEP left the alliance after disagreeing with the leadership of ABOP head Ronnie Brunswijk.

The Brotherhood and Unity in Politics is a political party in Suriname. At the 2005 legislative election, the party was part of the "A-Combination", an alliance that won 7.3% of the popular vote and five out of 51 seats in the National Assembly.

The General Liberation and Development Party is a political party in Suriname, founded and chaired by ex-rebel leader and convict Ronnie Brunswijk in 1991. At the 2010 legislative election, the party was a component in "A-Combination", a political alliance that won 4.7% of the popular vote and seven out of 51 seats in the National Assembly. Of these seven seats, three went to the ABOP. The former Vice President of Suriname, Robert Ameerali, is a member of the ABOP.

The Seeka is a political party in Suriname. At the 2005 legislative election, the party was part of the "A-Combination", an alliance that won 7.3% of the popular vote and five out of 51 seats in the National Assembly.

Prior to the 2015 elections Seeka left the A-Combination to join A Nyun Combinatie. [4] However, the alliance was joined by the Party for National Unity and Solidarity (which had pulled out of the V7 alliance) and the Party for Democracy and Development. In the elections the alliance received 11% of the vote, winning five seats. [5]

The Party for National Unity and Solidarity is a Javanese political party in Suriname. At the last legislative elections, the party was part of the Mega Combinatie electoral alliance that won 40.2% of the popular vote and 23 out of 51 seats in the National Assembly. Out of these 23 seats, two went to the KTPI.

The party symbol is the rising sun above the Trinity Hills.

The National Democratic Party (NDP) is a political party in Suriname. It was founded on 4 July 1987 by Surinamese leader Dési Bouterse. In the 2015 general election the party scored 45.56% of the vote and 26 of 51 seats in parliament.
