The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is an Indian regional political party with great influence in the state of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry. It is a Dravidian party founded by the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R.) at Madurai on 17 October 1972 as a breakaway faction from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam after M. Karunanidhi expelled him from the party for demanding an account as the party treasurer. The party is adhering to the policy of socialism and secularism based on the principles of C. N. Annadurai (Anna) collectively coined as Annaism by M.G.R. The party has won a seven-time majority in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and has emerged as the most successful political outfit in the state's history. It is currently the main opposition party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and part of the India-ruling National Democratic Alliance.

Andimuthu Raja is an Indian politician from Tamil Nadu,who serves as Member of Parliament for the Nilgiris constituency and deputy general secretary for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Thiruthurapoondi Thiruvenkatam Vivekananda Dhinakaran is an Indian politician and founding General Secretary of Amma Makkal Munneetra Kazagam. In the past he was the Treasurer of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party and served as the Member of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. He was expelled from the AIADMK in August 2017. He also served as former Member of the 15th Tamil Nadu Assembly from Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar (2017-2021). He is the nephew of V. K. Sasikala. He won the highly anticipated RK Nagar by-election in December 2017. On 15 March 2018 Dhinakaran launched his political party named Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam.

The tenth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 24 June 1991. Jayaram Jayalalithaa was an Indian politician and actress who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for more than fourteen years over six terms between 1991 and 2016. From 9 February 1989 to 4 December 2016,she was the 5th and longest-serving general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK),a Dravidian party whose cadre revered her as their "Amma" (Mother) and "Puratchi Thalaivi". Her critics in the media and the opposition accused her of fostering a personality cult and of demanding absolute loyalty from AIADMK legislators and ministers,who often publicly prostrated themselves before her.

B. Senguttuvan was an Indian politician and Member of Parliament elected from Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from Vellore constituency as an Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) candidate in 2014 election,defeating A. C. Shanmugam by a margin of 59,393 votes,to become the second ADMK candidate to win from the Vellore constituency after a gap of 30 years. He was an advocate,who enrolled himself as a lawyer in 1983. He served as Vellore district's Government Pleader from 2001 to 2006 and as the Public Prosecutor from 2011 to 2014,until he resigned the post to contest the 2014 general election. Both these periods were those of ADMK's regime in Tamil Nadu.
The Sixteenth Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election was held on 6 April 2021,to elect representatives from the 234 constituencies in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the election,ending the decade-long reign of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The DMK's leader M. K. Stalin became the eighth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,and the 12th Chief Minister since the 1956 reorganization. He replaced Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK.
