The album was produced by Devin Townsend and the band itself, and received considerably more airplay than their previous effort, with three singles. As of 2013, As The Palaces Burn has sold 270,000 copies since its original release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The album features two songs, "Perfect Insanity" and "Divide", that were written by Disturbed prior to their first album, The Sickness, but were never previously released.

"The Night" is a song by American heavy metal band Disturbed. It was released on 31 March 2009, as the fourth single from their studio album, Indestructible. The song was the first from Indestructible to be completed musically. It is lyrically meant to portray the night as a living entity. Musically, "The Night" is dark and textural. Disturbed guitarist Dan Donegan was almost universally praised for his work on this song, specifically during the guitar solo. A music video to correspond with the song was filmed in January 2009 and later released in late March 2009.

"Check My Brain" is a song by the American rock band Alice in Chains, featured on their fourth studio album, Black Gives Way to Blue (2009). It was released as the first official single from the album on August 14, 2009, marking it as the band's first single in a decade. The single topped the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and Billboard Hot Rock Songs charts in September 2009. This was the first time an Alice in Chains song would hit number-one on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart since their 1994 single "No Excuses". This is Alice in Chains' first and currently only song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 92, and also their first number-one on the Alternative Songs chart. "Check My Brain" received a nomination for "Best Hard Rock Performance" at the 52nd Grammy Awards.
Born of Osiris is an American progressive metalcore band formed in 2003 in Palatine, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Ronnie Canizaro, lead guitarist/backing vocalist Lee McKinney, bassist/rhythm guitarist//keyboardist Nick Rossi, and drummer Cameron Losch. Born of Osiris has played at various festivals including the Summer Slaughter Tour and the Music as a Weapon Tour 4.
The New Reign is the debut EP by American progressive metalcore band Born of Osiris. It was released on October 2, 2007 through Sumerian Records. The New Reign was written entirely by drummer Cameron Losch when he was 14–16 years old and produced by The Faceless guitarist Michael Keene. It is also the last release by the band with guitarist Matthew C. Pantelis. Pantelis went on to join deathcore band Veil of Maya after The New Reign.

It is also the first Born of Osiris record to make use of seven string guitars, and was produced solely by members of the band. Early demo versions of some of the album’s songs were produced and mixed by Misha Mansoor but the final retail release was mixed by Jason Suecof.
"Buried Alive" is a song by American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold, off the band's fifth studio album Nightmare. The song was released as the albums fourth and final single on September 20, 2011. The music of the song was mostly written by the band's late drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, who died on December 28, 2009. Singer M. Shadows has stated he is extremely proud of the song.

The Eternal Reign is the second EP by American progressive metalcore band Born of Osiris. It is an entire re-recording of their 2007 EP, The New Reign, and includes one new song, "Glorious Day", originally intended for the 2007 release. An original, rough demo of that song can be found on the 2004 EP, Youm Wara Youm. The Eternal Reign was released on February 24, 2017 through Sumerian Records as a 10-year celebration of the release of The New Reign. This is the last album to feature bassist David Da Rocha.
The Simulation is the fifth studio album by American progressive metalcore band Born of Osiris, released on January 11, 2019 through Sumerian Records. It was originally announced as the first of two Born of Osiris albums planned for release in 2019, though the second album remained unreleased for the rest of that year. In July 2018, the ensemble released a lyric video for "Silence the Echo", the first single from the album. In November 2018 "The Accursed", the second single from the album, was released. On January 10, 2019; the third single "Cycles of Tragedy" was released.
