Las Anod is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somaliland.

Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke,popularly known as Omar Sharmarke,is a Somali diplomat and politician. From 2009 to 2010,he was the Prime Minister of Somalia. He subsequently briefly served as Somalia's Ambassador to the United States in 2014. In December 2014,Sharmarke was reappointed Prime Minister of Somalia. His term ended on 1 March 2017,and he was replaced by Hassan Ali Khaire.
General Abdullahi Ahmed Jama Ilkajir is a Somali politician,who was Puntland's Interior Minister from January 2009 to February 2014. He is the former Minister of Education of Somalia,having been appointed to the position on 12 January 2015 by the former Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke. However,he only served 2 weeks when on 17 January 2015,Prime Minister Sharmarke dissolved his newly nominated cabinet due to vehement opposition by legislators,who rejected the reappointment of certain former ministers.
Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas,also more known as Abdiweli Gaas,is a Somali American economist and politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Somalia from June 2011 to October 2012,and briefly afterwards as an MP in the newly formed Federal Parliament. During his time as Premier,Ali is credited with having devised the formal "Roadmap for the End of Transition",a political process that provided clear benchmarks leading toward the establishment of permanent democratic institutions in the country. On 8 January 2014,he was elected the 5th President of Puntland.

Ahmed Abdi Mohamud Sugulle “Habsade” is a Puntland and Somaliland politician. He was a decorated Colonel in the Somali Armed Forces and the second in command of the Somali Custodial Corps equivalent to that of the Italian Arma dei Carabinieri but the Custodial Corps fall under the Ministry of the Interior and are part of the Police Force. A politician and respected elder later in life (he was instrumental in the founding of Somaliland and became the Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives. In 1998,he was appointed Minister of the Interior of Puntland but was dismissed in 2007 after a conflict with Mohamud Muse Hersi,who became President of Puntland in 2006. In 2007,he brought Somaliland troops into Las Anod,leading to Somaliland's effective control of the Sool region. He served as various Somaliland Ministers of state from 2008. In 2014,Abdiweli Gaas became President of Puntland and he come back to Puntland.
