Chlorophyceae Class of green algae

The Chlorophyceae are one of the classes of green algae, distinguished mainly on the basis of ultrastructural morphology. They are usually green due to the dominance of pigments chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. The chloroplast may be discoid, plate-like, reticulate, cup-shaped, spiral or ribbon shaped in different species. Most of the members have one or more storage bodies called pyrenoids located in the chloroplast. Pyrenoids contain protein besides starch. Some green algae may store food in the form of oil droplets. They usually have a cell wall made up of an inner layer of cellulose and outer layer of pectose.

Glaucophyte Division of algae

The glaucophytes, also known as glaucocystophytes or glaucocystids, are a small group of freshwater unicellular algae, less common today than they were during the Proterozoic. The stated number of species in the group varies from about 14 to 26. Together with the red algae (Rhodophyta) and the green algae plus land plants, they form the Archaeplastida. However, the relationships among the red algae, green algae and glaucophytes are unclear, in large part due to limited study of the glaucophytes.

Charales Order of green algae in the division Charophyta

Charales is an order of freshwater green algae in the division Charophyta, class Charophyceae, commonly known as stoneworts. Depending on the treatment of the genus Nitellopsis, living (extant) species are placed into either one family (Characeae) or two. Further families are used for fossil members of the order. Linnaeus established the genus Chara in 1753.

Laminariaceae Family of brown algal seaweeds, many genera of which are popularly called "kelp"

Laminariaceae is a family of brown algal seaweeds, many genera of which are popularly called "kelp". The table indicates the genera within this family. The family includes the largest known seaweeds: Nereocystis and Macrocystis.

Trebouxiophyceae Class of algae

The Trebouxiophyceae are a class of green algae, in the division Chlorophyta. Their circumscription within the green algae is not well established due to the need for more genetic studies at higher levels within the group.

Ulotrichales Order of algae

Ulotrichales is an order of green algae in the class Ulvophyceae.

Hormotila Genus of algae

Hormotila is a genus of green algae in the family Chaetophoraceae.

Chlorokybus is a multicellular (sarcinoid) genus of basal green algae or charophyte, a soil alga. It has been classified as the sole member of the family Chlorokybaceae, which is the sole member of the order Chlorokybales, in turn the sole member of the class Chlorokybophyceae.

Klebsormidiaceae Family of algae

The Klebsormidiaceae are a family containing five genera of charophyte green alga forming multicellular, non-branching filaments. The genus Chlorokybus was previously included as well, but this problematic and poorly known genus is now placed in a separate class Chlorokybophyceae.

Rivulariaceae Family of bacteria

The Rivulariaceae are a family of cyanobacteria within the Nostocales in which the filaments (trichomes) are tapered from wider at the base to narrower at the tip.

Botrydiaceae Family of algae

Botrydiaceae is a family of yellow-green algae comprising 13 species in three genera. It is the only family in the order Botrydiales.

Onslowiaceae is the only family in order Onslowiales in the brown algae. The family contains only the genera Onslowia and Verosphacela.

Scytothamnales Order of algae

Scytothamnales is an order of brown algae.

Vaucheria Genus of yellow green algae

Vaucheria is a genus of Xanthophyceae or yellow-green algae known as water felt. It is one of only two genera in the family Vaucheriaceae. The type species of the genus is Vaucheria disperma.

Hapalidiaceae Family of algae

Hapalidiaceae is a family of red alga belonging to the order Corallinales.

Mamiellophyceae Class of algae

Mamiellophyceae is a class of green algae in the division Chlorophyta.

Syracosphaeraceae is a family of algae consisting of the following genera:

Pyramimonadaceae Family of algae

Pyramimonadaceae is a family of green algae.

Feistiellaceae

Feistiellaceae is a family of freshwater green algae in the order Charales.
