Plot
A girl watches the city from a rooftop, before the building beside her collapses from a missile attack sent by Albert Wily ("The Calm"). She hurriedly makes her way to a planned meeting with the small rebel army she leads, where Thomas Light says they have no hope in their fight against Wily. The girl rebukes him and, seeing the crowd is ready to fight, Light leaves. The girl follows him ("Hold Back the Night"). He takes her to a trainyard, where a computer shows a faint red location marker on a map of the city. He adjusts the machine to reveal Megaman's location in the mountains north of the city ("The Trainyard"). Reminded of Joe by the girl, Light gives her the location. She leaves to find Megaman while Light reflects on the state of the city and makes his way into Wily's fortress, using a device to disable the robot guards ("No Way Back").
In his fortress control room, Wily paces, frustrated by his failed attacks on the rebels hiding in the city's crumbling south side ("The Storm"). He fires another pair of rockets there, drinking to numb his feelings of hollow sadness and creeping despair ("Buried in the Red"). The girl arrives at Megaman's canyon and urges him to return and fight Wily ("Calling Out"). Megaman, in anger at the city for for their failure, refuses to return. Disgusted by his inaction, she throws his helmet at him and drives away ("This City Made Us"). Megaman reflects on Light and the fight he abandoned, changes his mind and runs towards to the city ("Hold On (The Distance Between)").
The girl sees missiles hitting the city as she accelerates ("The Redline"). Wily watches the destruction, smiling as the attack continues. Light disrupts Wily's drones, while the rebels use improvised shields to defend themselves and destroy the attacking robot army ("A Show of Force"). Light knows Wily intends to destroy them with a new machine. He falls asleep working late, and dreams of his dead wife Emily, who tells him there is still hope and work to be done ("The Dream"). He wakes, takes Emily's music box, visits her grave, and heads for Wily's tower. On the way he destroys robots, and notices a subtext of fear in the doublespeak propaganda. He reaches the top of the control tower, as Wily questions whether or not he should have activated his machine ("Light's Last Stand").
Wily enters the tower and Light reveals himself, trying to convince Wily to stand down his robot army. Wily initially feels pity but as Light presents Emily's music box, it is more than Wily can bear. He orders his machines to beat Light, who is then taken away. Wily then tells his citizens to gather to "witness the beginning of a new era of peace and freedom" ("The Good Doctor • Part 2"). Citizens, rebels and the girl arrive at the fortress to watch in fear and confusion, as Wily's robots push Light onto a gallows. Megaman observes via a looming telescreen as he races across the city. He throws innocent bodies to the side as he tries to get closer, and his cries are engulfed in the din. Light sees "a flash of blue" in the crowd as the rope slips around his neck and thinks of Emily. A loud slamming sound is heard, followed by creaking ("The Fate of Thomas Light").
Release
On October 3, 2025, the album's first two tracks, cover art, and full title were revealed (previously, the band had referred to the album simply as Act III). [4]
From October 3 to December 5, 2025, the band released the album's tracks weekly on Bandcamp ahead of its official release date of January 9, 2026. [2] [5] [6] The tracks were released with accompanying artwork in the form of posters designed by Verizon Industries, [7] later included in the libretto included with the CD. [8]
In 2026, the band performed three concerts at Super MAGFest; each highlighting one of the albums in their three-act rock opera, culminating in the final night dedicated to Act III to promote its release. [9]
