Mountain A large landform that rises fairly steeply above the surrounding land over a limited area

A mountain is a large landform that rises above the surrounding land in a limited area, usually in the form of a peak. A mountain is generally steeper than a hill. Mountains are formed through tectonic forces or volcanism. These forces can locally raise the surface of the earth. Mountains erode slowly through the action of rivers, weather conditions, and glaciers. A few mountains are isolated summits, but most occur in huge mountain ranges.

Lemon Range

The Lemon Range or Lemon Mountains is a mountain range in King Christian IX Land, eastern Greenland. Administratively this range is part of the Sermersooq Municipality.

Its administrative seat is the city of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, and it is the most populous municipality in the country, with 21,868 inhabitants as of January 2013. The municipality consists of former municipalities of eastern and southwestern Greenland, each named after the largest settlement at the time of formation:

Geography

This 2,514 m (8,248 ft) high peak rises at the northern end of the Lemon Range, rising steeply just west of the Frederiksborg Glacier. [1] It is a rocky peak with a vertical icy crevice running along its southern face. This mountain is marked as an 8,726-foot-high (2,660 m) peak in the Defense Mapping Agency Greenland Navigation charts. [3]

Frederiksborg Glacier

Frederiksborg Glacier is a glacier on the east coast of the Greenland ice sheet. It is named after Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark.

Although it is the highest summit of the range, Actress is located inland and is not as conspicuous as the spectacular peak cluster of the Domkirkebjerget with its 2,458 m (8,064 ft) high "Cathedral". The latter is located further south in a more accessible area [4] [5] and "Cathedral" was formerly confused with Actress, the true highest point of the Lemon Range. [6]

In geography and geology, a cliff is a vertical, or nearly vertical, rock exposure. Cliffs are formed as erosion landforms by the processes of weathering and erosion. Cliffs are common on coasts, in mountainous areas, escarpments and along rivers. Cliffs are usually formed by rock that is resistant to weathering and erosion. Sedimentary rocks most likely to form cliffs include sandstone, limestone, chalk, and dolomite. Igneous rocks such as granite and basalt also often form cliffs.
