Ade is an unincorporated community in Washington Township, Newton County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. [1]

History

Ade was laid out as a town in 1906. [3] It was named for John Ade, the first recorder of Newton County and the father of George Ade, an American author and playwright. [4] A post office was established at Ade in 1904, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. [5]

George Ade House, also known as Hazelden, is a two-story, fourteen-room, Tudor Revival-style home in Iroquois Township in Newton County, Indiana. Chicago architect Billie Mann designed the frame dwelling, built in 1904, George Ade (1866–1944), a syndicated newspaper columnist, author, humorist, and playwright. Ade named the property Hazelden, after his English grandparents' home.
