Adrian-George Axinia (born 18 October 1977) is a Romanian civil engineer and politician of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians who was elected member of the European Parliament in 2024. [1] He is a vice president of the party and served in the Chamber of Deputies from 2020 to 2024. [2]

Florin Vasile Axinia is a Romanian former professional footballer who played as a striker. Except for two halves of seasons played at Național București, Axinia played all his career for Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț, for which he scored 82 goals in 293 matches, ensuring his presence in the club's hall of fame. Axinia is the all-time goalscorer of Ceahlăul and also was the captain of the team in 72 matches. His brother Gheorghe Axinia was also a footballer, they played together at Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț. In 2006, Gelu Crăcană, a fan of Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț created a 420-square-meter Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț jersey shirt with Florin Axinia's name on it which entered the Guinness World Records Hall of fame. In 2008 Axinia suffered a stroke, but after which he fully recovered.

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians is a right-wing populist and nationalist political party active in Romania and Moldova. It was founded on 19 September 2019 ahead of the 2020 Romanian local and legislative elections. The party president is George Simion. The party ran in the local elections, not obtaining many votes and only winning in three towns. However, in the legislative elections, the AUR won 9% of the votes in all of Romania and its diaspora, thus becoming the fourth-largest party in the country at the central level, which surprised observers.

As the Romanian Constitution allows a maximum of two presidential terms, incumbent President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, first elected in 2014 and then re-elected in 2019, is not eligible for re-election. His second term will formally end in December 2024.
