The Algerian Cup is a football competition in Algeria, pitting regional teams against each other. It was established in October 1962, three months after independence, and has been played yearly since then apart from 1990 and 1993.

Founded on 15 January 1973 after the 2nd All-Africa Games in Lagos (Nigeria), it represents the national handball associations of Africa under the supervision of the International Handball Federation (IHF).

In the 2014–15 season, USM Alger is competing in the Ligue 1 for the 37th season, as well as the Algerian Cup. It is their 20th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. They will be competing in Ligue 1, the CAF Champions League, the Algerian Super Cup and the Algerian Cup. The club was managed by Hubert Velud, until his sacking on 1 February 2015. He was replaced by Otto Pfister on 19 February. On May 18, Pfister was sacked as coach of USM Alger.

They are five times Men's National Champions, seven times Men's Oceania Champions and qualified for seven IHF Super Globe competitions. The men's team has won the State Championship eleven times. The women's team has also won the State Championship nine times.
