Ajit Ranade is an economist, political analyst and reporter [1] based out of Mumbai, India. Currently he is Vice Chancellor of Gokhale Institute Of Politics & Economics Pune. [2]

Education

He is a PhD in economics from Brown University. [3] He is a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. [4] He is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. [5] He had been Professor ICRIER, New Delhi [6] and assistant professor at IGIDR, Mumbai. [7]

Professional career

He is the chief economist of the Aditya Birla Group, [8] an Indian multinational conglomerate. [9] [10] [11] He also served as chief economist at ABN AMRO Bank. He serves as a director on the board of Hindalco Almex Aerospace Limited, a joint venture company of Hindalco and Almex Inc. of US between 2007 and 2011. He was Government of India's nominee as independent director of Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd., from 22 September 2007 to 1 April 2010. He has served on various committees of the Reserve Bank of India, including the Committee on Fuller Capital Account Convertibility [12] and the committee to review FEMA for Individuals. [13] He is a member of the National Executive Committee of FICCI and Economic Policy Council of CII. He chairs the Research Advisory Panel of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance. He is a member of the board of governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. [14] [15] He is columnist with Mumbai Mirror [16] He also writes at FirstPost, Business Standard, IBNLive, The Economics Times. [17] [18] [19] [20] He has authored several books, namely Life Insurance in India: Emerging Issues, [21] Three Questions about Insurance Liberalisation, [22] Maharashtra's EGS: Regional Patterns, Scope for Reforms and Replication. [23] He is a co founder and trustee of Association for Democratic Reforms which is an Indian civil society group vying for transparency in the politics of India. Pune is the 9th most populous city in India and one of the largest in the state of Maharashtra. Goenka Award, Durga Ratan Award, Agarkar Award & Bhalerao Award for excellence in journalism and Ramshastri award for social justice. He was the founder Director of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune and the author of the Gadgil formula, which served as the base for the allocation of central assistance to states during the Fourth and Fifth Five Year Plans of India. Dr. Amit Mitra is an Indian economist and politician and the current Special Advisor to Chief Minister of West Bengal on Finance. Previously he was the Finance, Commerce & Industries Minister of the government of Indian state of West Bengal. He was the incumbent MLA in the West Bengal state assembly from the Khardaha state assembly constituency. Cited as a giant killer in the 2011 West Bengal state assembly election defeating Asim Dasgupta, the former West Bengal Finance Minister. Mitra previously served as the Secretary general of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Padmakar Ramachandra Dubhashi was an Indian civil servant, administrator, author, social scientist and academician, known for his administrative and academic abilities. He was a pioneer of Cooperative movement and was instrumental in housing the Goa University in a new campus, a feat he accomplished during his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the University. The Government of India honoured him, in 2010, with Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, for his services to the nation.

Rajiv Kumar is an Indian economist who had served as the second vice-chairman of the NITI Aayog. He also serves as the chancellor of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune His earlier stint in government was initially with the Ministry of Industry and subsequently in the Ministry of Finance, as economic advisor during the reform years of 1991-1994. He has wide experience of having worked in government, academia, industry associations, as well as in international financial institutions. He also served as an independent director on the central boards of the Reserve Bank of India and the State Bank of India.
