The Al-Safran Air Base (ICAO : OMLW, [1] alternatively called Liwa [2] ) is a military air base operated by the United Arab Emirates Air Force, located approximately 80 miles southwest of Abu Dhabi, near Madinat Zayed. [3] [4]
Construction of the base cost an estimated $1 billion. [3] Construction was carried out by Capriole Construction Co. LLC. [5] A Mirage 2000 squadron was moved to the base in 2007, and it was completed in approximately 2008. [3] [6] The base underwent an expansion of its airport apron in 2017, the same year it added six new aircraft shelters. [7]
The base has one runway, hardened aircraft shelters, and a subterranean ammunition dump. [3] The bases houses two ground control stations. [7] The base is defended by the Super aEgis II sentry gun. [8]

E 11 is a highway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Al Dhafra Air Base is a military installation in the United Arab Emirates. The base is located approximately 20 mi (32 km) south of Abu Dhabi, and is operated by the United Arab Emirates Air Force.
Camp Mirage is the codename for a former Canadian Forces forward logistics facility located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The facility was established in late-December 2001 and, though not officially acknowledged by the Canadian Forces, is considered an "open secret". According to CTV sources, the base was closed in November 2010.

The United Arab Emirates Air Force (UAEAF) is the air force of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), part of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces. Al Dhafrah Region Municipality (DRM) (Arabic: بلدية الظفرة), formerly Western Region Municipality(WRM) is a municipality in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, covering the al-Dhafra region. It was constituted in 2006 and is responsible for the region's planning, development and urbanization as well as other range of local government functions.
Al Dhafra Region, known until 2017 as Al Gharbia or the Western Region, is one of three Municipal Regions in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Forming the western part of the United Arab Emirates, it is by far the largest region by area, occupying 71 % of the Abu Dhabi emirate's total area, yet the smallest by population and population density, and thus a rather remote region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, similar to the Eastern Region. He also became the back-up astronaut for Sultan Al Neyadi for the UAE's second mission to the ISS, which is the longest Arab space mission. Previously, he was the UAE's youngest F-16 fighter pilot.

This led to the construction of a new fighter air base called Al-Safran AB near the town of Al-Gharbia, housing at least one Mirage 2000 unit. Al-Safran is believed to have opened between around 2008.
