Fabienne Feraez, a sprinter, was selected as the flag bearer for the opening ceremony. None of the Benin athletes progressed further than the heat round.

Weightlifter Hysen Pulaku was officially removed from the team on the first day, after failing a drug test for the banned anabolic steroid substance, as announced by the International Olympic Committee. Albania, however, has yet to win its first ever Olympic medal.
Afërdita Tusha was an Albanian female sports shooter who competed at the 1972 Summer Olympic Games against the men in the 50 metre free pistol, she finished 51st. She was the first woman to represent Albania at the Olympics.
Ismail Rama was an Albanian shooter who competed at the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in the 50 metre rifle prone, he finished 22nd. Rama died on 8 April 2022, at the age of 86.
