Alexander Grimm (born 6 September 1986 in Augsburg) [1] is a German slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2002.

Contents

Grimm won a gold medal in the K1 event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

He also won three gold medals in the K1 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, earning them in 2007, 2010 and 2011. He won a total of eight medals at the European Championships (2 golds, 5 silvers and 1 bronze). [2]

Grimm won the 2009 Adidas Sickline whitewater extreme race, despite having little previous experience of extreme whitewater or indeed of paddling the creekboats used to enhance paddler safety.

His younger sister Michaela has also represented Germany in canoe slalom. [3]

The ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships are an international event in canoeing organized by the International Canoe Federation. The World Championships have taken place every year in non-Summer Olympic years since 2002. From 1949 to 1999, they had taken place in odd-numbered years. The 2001 championships were scheduled to take place in Ducktown, Tennessee from 20 to 23 September, but were canceled in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

The 2010 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were held 8–12 September 2010 at Tacen Whitewater Course, Slovenia under the auspices of International Canoe Federation for the record-tying third time. It was the 33rd edition. Tacen hosted the event previously in 1955 and 1991 when it was part of Yugoslavia, and joins the following cities that have hosted the event three times: Spittal, Austria ; Meran, Italy ; Bourg St.-Maurice, France ; and Augsburg, Germany. The 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were the 39th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 25 to 30 September 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF). The competitions were held at the Deodoro Olympic Whitewater Stadium which had also hosted the canoe slalom events of the 2016 Summer Olympics.
