Alexander Lonquich (born 28 August 1960 in Trier [1] ) is a German classical pianist and conductor.
Lonquich studied with Paul Badura-Skoda, Andrzej Jasiński, and Ilonka Deckers-Küszler. [2]
He won the first prize at the Alessandro Casagrande Piano Competition in Terni, Italy, at the age of 16. [2] In 1980, he received an honorable mention at the X International Chopin Piano Competition.
The musician regularly appeared at international festivals including: Mozartwoche Salzburg, Piano-Festival Ruhr, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Lucerne Festival, Cheltenham Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Kissinger Sommer, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Lockenhaus, Beethovenfest. [3]
Throughout his career, Lonquich worked with several conductors including: Claudio Abbado, Yuri Bashmet, Hans Graf, Heinz Holliger, Ton Koopman, Emmanuel Krivine, Mark Minkowski, Kurt Sanderling, Sándor Végh. [3]
Among the orchestras Lonquich played with are Camerata Salzburg, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza, Münchener Kammerorchester, Kammerorchester Basel, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Stuttgart Chamber, Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Düsseldorf Symphonic Orchestra. He also conducts himself, sometimes as piano concerto soloist. [3]
Lonquich's performed with numerous chamber music partners, including Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon, Veronika Hagen, Heinz Holliger, Steven Isserlis, Leonidas Kavakos, Isabelle van Keulen, Sabine Meyer, Heinrich Schiff, Christian Tetzlaff, Auryn Quartet, Ruth Ziesak. [4]
He recorded music by Schubert, Schumann, Poulenc and Mozart for EMI; Fauré, Messiaen, Ravel, Gideon Lewensohn, Flavio Emilio Scogna for RCA Red Seal, Schumann and Holliger for ECM New Series; and Beethoven live for the Ruhr piano festival. [5]
Among Lonquich's recording awards are the Diapason d’Or and Premio Abbiati . [3]
Together with his son, Tommaso Lonquich, clarinet player, he recorded the CD Moonwalk. [6]
He is the artistic director of the SCUOLA DI MUSICA DI FIESOLE
Johann Nikolaus Harnoncourt or historically Johann Nikolaus Graf de la Fontaine und d'Harnoncourt-Unverzagt; was an Austrian conductor, particularly known for his historically informed performances of music from the Classical era and earlier. Starting out as a classical cellist, he founded his own period instrument ensemble, Concentus Musicus Wien, in 1953, and became a pioneer of the Early Music movement. Around 1970, Harnoncourt began conducting opera and concert performances, soon leading international symphony orchestras, and appearing at leading concert halls, operatic venues and festivals. His repertoire then widened to include composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. In 2001 and 2003, he conducted the Vienna New Year's Concert. Harnoncourt was also the author of several books, mostly on subjects of performance history and musical aesthetics.
Heinz Robert Holliger is a Swiss virtuoso oboist, composer and conductor. Celebrated for his versatility and technique, Holliger is among the most prominent oboists of his generation. His repertoire includes Baroque and Classical pieces, but he has regularly engaged in lesser known pieces of Romantic music, as well as his own compositions. He often performed contemporary works with his wife, the harpist Ursula Holliger; composers such as Berio, Carter, Henze, Krenek, Lutosławski, Martin, Penderecki, Stockhausen and Yun have written works for him. Holliger is a noted composer himself, writing works such as the opera Schneewittchen (1998).
Howard Gordon Shelley is a British pianist and conductor. He was educated at Highgate School and the Royal College of Music. He was married to fellow pianist Hilary Macnamara, with whom he has performed and recorded in a two-piano partnership, and they have two sons.

Corinne Chapelle was a French-American violinist. She was born in California, her father was French and her mother Tunisian. She started her violin studies as a two-year-old and gave her first concert one year later. She studied with Yehudi Menuhin at his school in England, following which she studied at the Juilliard School of Music and joined Pinchas Zukerman's class in New York. Upon hearing Chapelle at the age of fifteen, Yehudi Menuhin said about her: "One of the most promising talents of her generation". These studies were further complemented by working with Ana Chumachenco, Lorand Fenyves and Josef Gingold.

The chamber orchestra Kammerorchester Basel was founded in Basel, Switzerland, in 1984. In the tradition of Paul Sacher's Basler Kammerorchester, its focus is on both early music and contemporary classical music. The orchestra plays regularly without a conductor with their leading concertmasters Julia Schröder, Daniel Bard and Baptiste Lopez. The Basel Chamber Orchestra is recognised as one of the leading chamber orchestras in the classical music scene. Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli, also Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli Jr. is an Italian conductor, nephew of famous Italian pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.

Wolfgang Marschner was a German violinist, teacher of violin, composer and conductor. He was professor at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen, the Musikhochschule Köln, the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music and, for more than three decades, at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. He also taught at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse.
