Aliw Awards by the Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. was established by the renowned Philippine journalist Alice H. Reyes, to recognize achievements in the live entertainment industry in the Philippines. Founded in 1976 in Manila, it is the pioneer in giving awards for excellence in theatre, opera, dance, live vocal and instrumental shows.

The first awards show was held in 1977 with singer Pilita Corrales winning the Entertainer of the Year Award followed by Rico Puno and Celeste Legaspi in 1978 and 1979, respectively. In 2007, the Award was given to Regine Velasquez, who also received it in 2009 and 2019. In the 2011 Aliw Awards, 19-year-old International Singing Sensation Charice was the recipient, making her the youngest artist to be conferred such recognition.


Aliw is the root word meaning "to entertain" in Filipino.

Ishmael Bernal was a Filipino filmmaker, stage and television director, actor and screenwriter. Noted for his melodramas, particularly with feminist and moral issues, he directed many landmark Filipino films such as Nunal sa Tubig (1976), City After Dark (1980), Relasyon (1982), Himala (1982), and Hinugot sa Langit (1985). Nickelodeon Philippines Kids Choice Awards

The Nickelodeon Philippines Kids' Choice Awards is an annual awards show which brought honors this year's biggest TV and sports personalities voted by kids and teenagers through text and online voting. Nickelodeon, an American cable television network, brought Kids' Choice Awards to the Philippines in an effort to strengthen its presence in Asia. According to Amit Jain, executive Vice-President and managing director of MTV Networks India, China and Southeast Asia, "This is a milestone for Nickelodeon's business in Southeast Asia as it will deliver on Nick's commitment of providing global kids-centric shows and properties which are adapted to reflect local tastes and aspirations."

Christine Love is a Filipino singer. She received Aliw Awards Best Female Artist award on 2009 and Best in a Live performance in a concert in 2010. She has released several albums under VIVA records.

Celeste Legaspi is a Filipino singer and actress. Her singles and albums reached gold or platinum status during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. She is the daughter of National Artist for Visual Arts Cesar Legaspi. She spearheaded the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM), a group which aimed to promote and propagate Original Pilipino music. She is married to Nonoy Gallardo, one of the premier OPM composers.

Ernani Joson Cuenco was a Filipino composer, film scorer, musical director, music teacher and Philippine National Artist for Music. He wrote an outstanding and memorable body of works that resonate with the Filipino sense of musicality and which embody an ingenious voice that raises the aesthetic dimensions of contemporary Filipino music. Cuenco played with the Filipino Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Manila Symphony Orchestra from 1960 to 1968, and the Manila Chamber Soloists from 1966 to 1970.
