The ASOP (A Song of Praise) Music Festival is an annual music festival held in Metro Manila, Philippines. Basically a songwriting competition, [1] it is the only gospel music television program in the country. [2] An original concept of Bro. Eli Soriano and Daniel Razon aiming to bring back praise songs to the public, it started in 2004 as a music competition inside the Members Church of God International but was later opened to the general public in 2011. [3] The music festival also discourages rap and metal music entries.

Contents

The program airs weekly on UNTV every Sunday night holding weekly and monthly eliminations. The show is hosted by Toni Rose Gayda and balladeer Richard Reynoso. [4] [5] For the first 6 years (2012-2017), the Grand Finals were held in Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City. Starting in 2018, the Finals are held in nearby New Frontier Theater, Quezon City. Since 2015, entries that won from the monthly eliminations of November of the current year to October of the following year are included in the Grand Finals Night.

On its third year, the multi-awarded Filipino actor and film director, Cesar Montano and Filipina actress, Lilet joined the competition with their compositions entitled Pagpupuring Walang Hanggan (Eternal Praise), and You Are Lord of All, respectively.

ASOP Music Festival was crowned the Best Talent Search Program of the 29th PMPC Star Awards for Television. As announced by Daniel Razon on the Year 7 Grand Finals, starting Year 8, the cash prize will be ₱800,000 for the champion, and a yearly increment of ₱100,000 will be added to the grand prize. [5]

ASOP Music Festival went on hiatus after the Year 8 Grand Finals, probably due to proposed format changes in the Year 8 Finals, and eventually due to the quarantine caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Year 7 (2017–2018)

The ASOP Year 7 Grand Finals night was held at the New Frontier Theater, Cubao, Quezon City on November 11, 2018, and had its simultaneous TV premiere at UNTV and online premiere at Youtube on December 30, 2018. [28]

"Tugtog", a song entry composed by John Paul Salazar and interpreted by Bradz was named as the grand champion among 12 finalists. Blind composer Jeffrey Lim won the special award Bro. Eli Soriano's Choice for the song "Hiling", while LJ Manzano's "Banal Mong Salita" bagged the People's Choice Award. Cello Nuñez was hailed as the Best Interpreter.

After the Grand Finals, "Banal Mong Salita" was used as the soundtrack of Ang Dating Daan's 38th anniversary short film "Banal Na Salita" (Holy Word). [29]

The eighth year of competition included entries from November 2018 to October 2019 episodes. As announced during the Year 7 Grand Finals, the grand prize for Year 8 is raised from ₱500,000 to ₱800,000.

"Sa 'Di Mabilang Na Tala", a song entry composed by Carlo David and interpreted by Gidget Dela Llana, was named as the grand champion among 12 finalists, and also bagged the People's Choice Award. [21] David became the first and only two-time winner in the program's history.

Ethan Loukas was hailed as the Best Interpreter, while Bro. Eli Soriano's Choice are the regulars of the show, hosts Richard Reynoso and Toni Rose Gayda, and resident judge Mon Del Rosario. [21]

Good Morning Kuya, also known as GMK is a morning news-talk program conceptualized by Daniel Razon which aired on UNTV-37 It premiered on July 23, 2007 replacing Pilipinas, Gising Ka Na Ba?. The show also provides various public services by means of a free clinic, a free orphanage, free education, free transient home, free legal services and free rides during weekday mornings. Look-a-likes of Manny Pacquiao and Mr. Bean gives an added twist in the show. Good Morning Kuya or GMK can be viewed from 5:00 am to 7:30 am. In 2015, it extended again back to 3 hours from 5:00 am to 8:00 am. on June 15, 2020, the program is back to 2 hours and 30 minutes from 6:00 am to 8:30 am PST.

<i>Ito Ang Balita</i> Philippine television news show

UNTV Ito Ang Balita is a Philippine radio and television late afternoon and flagship newscast of UNTV. It premiered on July 12, 2004, coinciding with the relaunch of UNTV. The show is also streaming on YouTube and Facebook. The program temporarily left the air in 2005 and reinstated on September 3, 2007. It was aired daily from Monday to Friday at 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

Bread N' Butter is a Filipino business and travel show produced by DSR Multimedia Productions that aired on UNTV. William Pineda Martinez is a Filipino actor who belongs to the first batch of Regal babies whose movie career was launched in the early 1980s. He initially starred in drama films, Manila by Night (1980), Bilibid Boys (1981), Tambay sa Disco (1980) until his studio paired him with Maricel Soriano in Oh My Mama (1981) and the result was a box-office success. The La Verdad Christian College or LVCC is a private educational institution established in Apalit, Pampanga, Philippines. It is the first private school in the Philippines that grants scholarship programs to deserving students by providing tuition-free education and no miscellaneous fees. The UNTV Broadcast Center is a mixed-use skyscraper and broadcast facility, currently under construction, located along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue in Barangay Philam, Quezon City. It will serve as the new headquarters of UNTV-37, also known as UNTV News and Rescue/ Public Service, a major UHF television channel. The UNTV Cup Season 3 was the 2014–2015 season of the public service-based basketball league, the UNTV Cup based in the Philippines. It was opened on November 17, 2014 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay. Its final games was held on April 28, 2015 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
