All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajkot (AIIMS Rajkot) is a public medical school and hospital based in Rajkot, Gujarat, India, and one of the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMSs). The first academic session of AIIMS Rajkot began on 21 December 2020. [1] On 31 December 2020 Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the institute. [2]

Academics

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan virtually inaugurated the first academic batch of MBBS students 21 December 2020 for the 2020-21 batch. [3] The institute became operational with the first batch of 50 MBBS students, one of the four AIIMSs to become operational in academic year 2020–21. In 2021 the institute functioned from a temporary campus at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Medical College with AIIMS Jodhpur mentoring it. [3]

Harsh Vardhan is a former Indian politician and otorhinolaryngologist. He had served as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences in the BJP-led NDA government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from 30 May 2019 to 7 July 2021. He represents Chandni Chowk in Delhi as a Member of Parliament in the 17th Lok Sabha. He was elected to the office of chairperson of the executive board of the World Health Organization from 22 May 2020. Vardhan has been prominent in the Indian government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He later resigned from his cabinet post ahead of the cabinet reshuffle in July 2021.

It is the second AIIMS of Bihar, being constructed approximately at a cost of 1264 crores. AIIMS Darbhanga was Announced on 28 February 2015 and approved on 15 September 2020, The Government of Bihar handed over the 187 acres of land to the Central Government in 2024.
