All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur (AIIMS Nagpur) is a medical research public higher education institute located at the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. It is one of the four "Phase-IV" All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) announced in July 2014. It is an institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which is part of the Government of India. [4]

In May 2024, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare nominated Vikas Mahatme, a Padma Shri awardee, as the President of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He is a former member of Rajya Sabha [5]

History

In July 2014, [6] in the budget speech for 2014–15, [7] the Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley announced a budget of 500 crore (equivalent to 799 croreorUS$96 million in 2023) for setting up four new AIIMS, in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and the Purvanchal region in Uttar Pradesh, [6] the so-called "Phase-IV" institutes. [7] In October 2015 the AIIMS at Nagpur was approved by the cabinet at a cost of 1,577 crore (equivalent to 24 billionorUS$290 million in 2023). [7] Construction work on the permanent campus started in September 2017. [7] Meanwhile, AIIMS Nagpur has commenced the academic session 2018-19 from temporary campus at Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur. [8]

Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are centrally funded technical institutes located across India. They are a group of 26 interdisciplinary technology-based-engineering research institutions in India which are focused on information technology. They are governed by the Indian Institutes of Information Technology Bill, 2014 which refers to them as Institutes of National Importance and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance as the country's premier institutions in the field of information technology. was introduced in the Lok Sabha. Five (5) Institutes of them are established, Fully funded and managed by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Gov. of India. The other 21 Institutions are set up on the public-private partnership (PPP) model, funded by the central government, state governments and industry partners in the ratio 50:35:15.

Dr. Vikas Mahatme is Padmashri Awarded Indian ophthalmologist, social entrepreneur, visionary and a former member of the Parliament in Rajya Sabha. Born in Amravati, he comes from Nagpur in the state of Maharashtra. He is well known across Maharashtra for his charitable and social works. He founded a charitable trust – S. Mahatme Eye Welfare Charitable Trust that runs Mahatme Eye Bank eye hospital in Nagpur as well as branches in Mumbai, Amravati, Gadchiroli and Pune. He received the Padma Shri for his charitable community work as an ophthalmologist. In June 2016, Mahatme was the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections, which he won unopposed. His candidature was strongly backed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. He belongs to the Dhangar community. He has expressed support for implementing Scheduled Tribe reservation for Dhangar community in Maharashtra and is its first community member to get elected to parliament. He is currently a member of the Indian Nursing Council.
