Alpha Adriatic d.d. is a Croatian ship management company. Founded and based in Pula, the company owns and operates four bulk carriers and four tankers, five of which are owned by their own subsidiary companies, while 3 ships are entrusted to the company for management by domestic and foreign third parties. [2] The company also provides ship management services to fleets owned by other shipping companies.
Alpha Adriatic is a joint-stock company that was founded in 1986 as part of the Uljanik group under the name Uljanik Plovidba, but in 1994 the privatization process began, during which all ownership links between the two companies were severed over the course of four years. However, despite this, there remained confusion about the company's identity, as well as a false impression of the connection with the Uljanik Group, which recently, due to the financial difficulties of the Uljanik Shipyard, made business difficult for the company's management. Therefore, the decision was made to change the name to Alpha Adriatica. [3]

The Croatian Navy is a branch of the Croatian Armed Forces. It was formed in 1991 from what Croatian forces managed to capture from the Yugoslav Navy during the breakup of Yugoslavia and Croatian War of Independence. In addition to mobile coastal missile launchers, today it operates 30 vessels, divided into the Navy Flotilla for traditional naval duties, and the Croatian Coast Guard. MS Berge Istra was a ship owned by Norwegian shipping company Sig.ö Bergesen d.y. and registered in Liberia, an ore-bulk-oil carrier with 227,550 tonnes deadweight (DWT). She was carrying ore from Brazil to Japan, and returning with crude oil from the Persian Gulf to Europe or America. The ship had build number 296 at the Uljanik shipyard in the port city Pula in then SFR Yugoslavia where it was built in 1972.
MS Berge Vanga was an ore-bulk-oil carrier with 227,912 tonnes deadweight (DWT). The ship was owned by Norwegian shipping company Sig. Bergesen d.y. and registered in Liberia. The ship had build number 300 at the Uljanik shipyard in the port city Pula in Croatia where it was built in 1974.
