Amber Val Stachowski (born March 14, 1983) is an American water polo player for the UCLA Bruins and the U.S. National Team, who won the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Her position is center defender.
At Capistrano Valley High School, Stachowski was a three-time First-Team All-American (1999–2001) [1] and 2001 California Interscholastic Federation Player of the Year. In club play she was a member of the 2001 Golden West team that won the Winter Junior Nationals, and was named MVP of the tournament.
As a UCLA freshman in 2002, Stachowski scored a goal in her first collegiate game against UC Irvine, and recorded first collegiate career hat trick against Stanford. In her first year, she had 29 goals on 43 attempts.
At the fourth FINA Junior World Women's Water Polo Championships in 2001, UCLA freshman Amber Stachowski led the US to a gold medal. Stachowski led the US team with four goals in the 10-9 overtime victory over Australia. Stachowski redshirted during the 2003–2004 season to train with the United States National Team and play in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. But in 2003, Stachowski sustained a concussion in a motor vehicle accident on a Los Angeles freeway, which kept her out of the water for a few weeks. [2] She recovered and qualified for the Olympic team 6 months later.
After Team USA earned first place in the 2003 Pan American Games and 2003 FINA World Championships, [3] Stachowski scored two goals in the Olympics in games against Russia and Australia, helping win the bronze medal for the United States.
Brenda Villa is an accomplished American water polo player. She is the most decorated athlete in the world of women’s water polo. Villa was named Female Water Polo Player of the Decade for 2000-2009 by the FINA Aquatics World Magazine. She is one of four female players who competed in water polo at four Olympics; and one of two female athletes who won four Olympic medals in water polo. She is a leading goalscorer in Olympic water polo history, with 31 goals. In 2018, she was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame and the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame.
Coralie Denise Simmons is an American water polo player, who won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. In 2001, she won the Peter J. Cutino Award, presented annually to the top American collegiate water polo player. Simmons is currently in her third season as the women's water polo coach at the University of California, Berkeley, after nine seasons as the head coach at Sonoma State University. She was born in Hemet, California.
Nicolle Katherine Payne is an American water polo player. The goalkeeper was a member of the US teams that won the silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

It is the fourth time in her career that she has been named the MVP of a major international tournament as she was named the MVP of the FINA World League Super Final in 2019 and again in 2021. She was also named the MVP of the FINA World Championships in 2017 where Team USA won gold; scored 16 goals in six games, including hat trick in 13–6 final-round win over Spain. Additionally, the four-time First-Team All-American, at UCLA, was also named the 2021 and 2022 Women's Total Player of the Year by (Total Waterpolo).
