The eighteenth cycle of America's Next Top Model (subtitled as America's Next Top Model: British Invasion) premiered on February 29, 2012 and was the twelfth season to air on The CW. It occupied the time slot of the final two scheduled episodes of Remodeled . [1] [2] This was the first American edition of Top Model to be filmed and broadcast in high definition (HD). [3] The cycle featured fourteen contestants, placing seven British models who had competed in previous cycles of Britain's Next Top Model alongside seven all-new American models. [1]

<i>Americas Next Top Model</i> television series

America's Next Top Model is an American reality television series and interactive competition in which a number of aspiring models compete for the title of "America's Next Top Model" and a chance to begin their career in the modeling industry. Created by Tyra Banks, who also serves as an executive producer, and developed by Ken Mok and Kenya Barris, the series premiered in May 2003, and was aired semiannually until 2012, then annually from 2013. The first six seasons were aired on UPN, before UPN merged with The WB to create The CW in 2006. The following sixteen cycles were aired on The CW until the series was first cancelled in October 2015. The series has since been revived, with cycle 24 currently airing by VH1. The series was among the highest-rated programs on UPN, and was the highest-rated show on The CW from 2007 to 2010. Advertisers paid $61,315 per 30-second slot during the 2011–12 television seasons, the highest of any series on The CW.

The prizes for this cycle included a modeling contract with LA Models & NY Model Management, a guest correspondent placement with Extra , a fashion spread in Vogue Italia , and both the cover and a spread in Beauty In Vogue, becoming the face of America’s Next Top Model fragrance "Dream Come True", production of a record single released by CBS Records, and a US$100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics. Criticism

During filming, an argument took place between judge Kelly Cutrone and contestant Louise Watts, resulting in Watts voluntarily leaving the show. [11] Following transmission of the episode, Cutrone posted mocking videos to Watts online, [12] and came under fire from fans of the show who accused her of cyberbullying. [13] [14]

Notes

  1. In episode 3, Louise would have been called 8th had she not quit the competition. After revealing this, Tyra asked Alisha, Ashley, Candace, and Eboni to step forward and announced that they were all safe.
  2. In episode 10, Alisha quit the competition after Eboni's elimination.
