Amy Manson (born 9 September 1985) [1] is a Scottish actress. She has portrayed Alice Guppy in Torchwood , Abby Evans in Casualty , Lizzie Siddal in Desperate Romantics , Daisy Hannigan-Spiteri in Being Human , Medea in Atlantis , and Merida in the fifth season of the ABC fairy tale drama series Once Upon a Time . Born and brought up in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, [5] Manson has one sister, Ailsa Manson and one brother, James Manson, all of Sept Manson of Clan Gunn. [6] She attended Stage Coach, a Saturday drama school, before leaving home for London at the age of seventeen. [6] She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, leaving early to film Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud in Romania. [5] She lives in North London. [6]
Manson made her film debut in Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud , and has also appeared in the horror film Blood Monkey and the short film Smile Emily. [7]
Manson has lent her voice to the radio dramas Lost in Plain Sight, The Summer Walking and The Dead Hour. [8]
On television, she played Alice Guppy in two episodes of Torchwood , and appeared as Abby Evans in nine episodes of Casualty . She has guest-starred in episodes of Doctors , The Bill and My Family .
Manson played Lizzie Siddal, muse, wife and lover of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, in the BBC Two period drama Desperate Romantics . [9] She appeared as the vampire Daisy Hannigan-Spiteri in series two of Being Human , alongside Desperate Romantics co-star Aidan Turner. [10] [11]
Manson played Ginger Corrigan in the 2010 adaptation of Agatha Christie's Marple : The Pale Horse , [12] and also played Fleur Morgan in Outcasts , [13] an eight-part series by Kudos for BBC One. In 2011, Manson portrayed Leah in the third series of Misfits and Emma "Whirly" Tyson in the BBC drama Young James Herriot . [14]
She also appears in the fifth series of Irish drama Raw . [15]
In 2024, she appeared as Rhona Moncrieffe in the BBC drama, Rebus , an adaptation of the Inspector Rebus series by Ian Rankin. [16]
Manson won Best Performance (Female) at the 2008 Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland, for playing Stepdaughter in the National Theatre of Scotland production of Six Characters in Search of an Author . [17]

Torchwood is a British science fiction television programme created by Russell T Davies. A spin-off of the 2005 revival of Doctor Who, it aired from 2006 to 2011. The show shifted its broadcast channel each series to reflect its growing audience, moving from BBC Three to BBC Two to BBC One, and acquiring American financing in its fourth series when it became a co-production of BBC One and Starz. The Torchwood Institute, or simply Torchwood, is a fictional secret organisation from the British science fiction television series Doctor Who and its spin-off series Torchwood. It was established in 1879 by Queen Victoria after the events of "Tooth and Claw". Its prime directive is to defend Earth against supernatural and extraterrestrial threats. It is later revealed in "Army of Ghosts" that the Torchwood Institute has begun to use their findings to restore the British Empire to its former glory. To those ends, the organisation started to acquire and reverse engineer alien technology. Within Torchwood, an unofficial slogan evolved: "If it's alien, it's ours". According to one base director, Yvonne Hartman, its nationalist attitude includes refusing to use metric units.

Children of Earth is the banner title of the third and penultimate series of the British television science fiction programme Torchwood, which broadcast for five episodes on BBC One from 6 to 10 July 2009. The series had new producer Peter Bennett and was directed by Euros Lyn, who had considerable experience on the revived Doctor Who, Torchwood's parent show. The eponymous series is about an organization known as Torchwood which defends the Earth against alien threats. The plot of Children of Earth deals with aliens demanding 10% of the Earth's children, and a related earlier conspiracy 40 years ago; as such, Torchwood is pitted against the British government when the government attempts to conceal its past actions and accede to the present-day aliens' demands. The first, third, and fifth episodes of the serial were written by executive producer Russell T Davies, who also conceived its overall storyline. The third episode was co-written by James Moran whilst the second and fourth were penned by newcomer John Fay.

It is part of a series of movies and television series based on Herriot's novels. It features Iain De Caestecker as the title character following his arrival at veterinary college, alongside Amy Manson and Ben Lloyd-Hughes as fellow students Whirly Tyson and Rob McAloon. Directed by Michael Keillor and written by Ann McManus and Eileen Gallagher, it was a Koco Drama production for the BBC which first aired on BBC One in December 2011.
Ronald Eaglesham Porter, known professionally as Ron Donachie, is a Scottish character actor. He has appeared in supporting roles in films The Jungle Book (1994), Titanic and television series Game of Thrones, in which he recurred as Ser Rodrik Cassel. He is however perhaps best known for portraying DI John Rebus in the BBC Radio 4 dramatisations of Sir Ian Rankin's Rebus detective novels, a role he reprised for the stage play Rebus: Long Shadows.
