Andaleeve Rahman Partho (born 20 April 1974) [1] is the president of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party, a Member of Parliament [2] [3] and the principal of British School of Law in Dhaka. [4]
Andaleeve Rahman Partho was born on 20 April 1974 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His father, Naziur Rahman Manzur, was a politician and former minister who served as the founding chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party and as the Mayor of Dhaka. They belonged to a Bengali Muslim family known as the Taluqdars of Balia in Bhola Island. Through his paternal grandfather Bazlur Rahman Taluqdar, Andaleeve Rahman was a direct descendant of Munga Khan, an eighteenth-century who arrived in Bengal from Garmsir in Afghanistan who settled in the village of Saluka in greater Barisal. Khan's son, Shaykh Muhammad, served as a revenue officer for the Mughal emperors, earning the title of shiqdar and receiving a kharija taluq in Bhola's Balia and Gazaria areas, where the family established themselves as taluqdars. Andaleeve Rahman's mother Sheikh Reba was the niece of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and through her grandfather Sheikh Lutfar Rahman, Andaleeve was a direct descendant of the 15th-century Iraqi Arab Muslim preacher Sheikh Awwal of Baghdad. [5] His paternal uncle, Dr. Azizur Rahman, is a notable scientist. [6]
Andaleeve was a student at St. Joseph High School and later at Government Laboratory High School before moving to London to earn his Bachelor of Laws degree. [7]
Rahman passed the Bar Examination at Lincoln's Inn in the 5th. He then returned to the country and joined as an apprentice under the supervision of Barrister Rafiqul Haque and worked with him for five years. He is currently working as a lawyer in Dhaka and serves as principal of the British School of Law in Dhaka. [8]
Rahman has been actively involved in politics with his father, Najiur Rahman Manju, for over 25 years. When his father died on 27 April, Andalib was elected chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party. In the ninth parliamentary election of the 24th, Bhola-1 was elected as a candidate for the four-party alliance, and Awami League candidate Yusuf Hossain defeated Humayun and won. His party boycotted the election under the leadership of the BNP in the election of 2014. He became a candidate for the unity front and the 25-party alliance in the Dhaka-1 constituency in the 11th parliamentary elections. He collected nomination papers in Dhaka-17 and Bhola-3 seats. Politics of Bangladesh takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic, whereby the Prime Minister of Bangladesh is the head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The Constitution of Bangladesh was written in 1972 and has undergone seventeen amendments.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a major political party in Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by the late Bangladeshi president Ziaur Rahman, after the presidential election of 1978, with a view of uniting people with a nationalist ideology. Following Rahman's assassination in 1981, his widow, Khaleda Zia, took over leadership of the party and presided as chairperson until her imprisonment, in 2018. Since then, Tarique Rahman, the son of Rahman and Zia, has served as acting chairperson and has run the affairs of the party from London.
The Jatiya Party is a centre-right, conservative, nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammad Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently, it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations.
The Bangladesh Jatiya Party is a centre-right conservative political party in Bangladesh. It is a splinter group of the original Jatiya Party, founded by the former President Hossain Mohammad Ershad. It was previously known as Jatiya Party (Naziur), after the late party chairman Naziur Rahman Manzur. Manzur was a freedom fighter in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 and served as the Local Government and Rural Development Minister and Mayor of Dhaka City Corporation under Ershad. Manzur also served as the secretary general of the Jatiya Party between 1998 and 2001.
Kamal Hossain is a Silent Generation founding leader, lawyer and politician of Bangladesh. He is known as the "father of the Bangladeshi constitution" and regarded as an icon of secular democracy in the Indian subcontinent. Hossain currently heads his own law firm in Dhaka. He retired from political activities and from the post of president of Gano Forum in October 2023.
Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni was a Bangladeshi politician. He was one of the nephews of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the founding father of Bangladesh. He was the founder of Mujib Bahini Bangladesh Liberation Force-BLF one of the major guerrilla forces of the Bangladesh Liberation War and also the founder of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League.
Tofail Ahmed is a Bangladeshi politician. He is a 7-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Bhola-1, Bhola-2 and Bakerganj-1 constituencies since 1973. Previously he served as the Minister of Commerce and Minister of Industries of the Government of Bangladesh.
Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim is a Bangladeshi politician who is a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Gopalganj-2 constituency since 1991. He is a member of the standing committee of Bangladesh Awami League party. He also served as the minister of Health and Family Welfare during 1999–2001.
