Andorra European microstate between France and Spain

Andorra, officially the Principality of Andorra, also called the Principality of the Valleys of Andorra, is a sovereign landlocked microstate on the Iberian Peninsula, in the eastern Pyrenees, bordered by France to the north and Spain to the south. Believed to have been created by Charlemagne, Andorra was ruled by the Count of Urgell until 988, when it was transferred to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Urgell, and the present principality was formed by a charter in 1278. It is known as a principality as it is a diarchy headed by two Princes: the Catholic Bishop of Urgell in Catalonia, Spain, and the President of France.

2011 World Aquatics Championships 2011 edition of the World Aquatics Championships

The 14th FINA World Championships were held on July 16–31, 2011 in Shanghai, China at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. The 2011 World Championships featured five aquatics disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, open water, and synchronized swimming. At this championships, synchronized swimmer Natalia Ishchenko, of Russia, was the most decorated competitor winning all six gold medals of her events, at solo, duet and team routines. These championships served as qualifying stages for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The small principality of Andorra selected its participant for Eurovision Song Contest 2008 by using an internal selection. This selection process was criticized by the Association of Andorran Musicians (ASMA) who believed that abandoning the national selection process in favor of an internal selection effectively blocks the public participation of Andorran artists. Nevertheless, RTVA announced that Andorra would be represented by former Operación Triunfo contestant, Gisela. On 10 December 2007, the Andorran television broadcaster held a press conference to present Gisela and to announce that the Jordi Cubino composed "Casanova" would be the Andorran theme in Belgrade. The entry in its entirety was presented through the promotional video that aired on February 26, 2008.

Andorra National Library national library

The Andorra National Library was §founded in 1930, then re-opened in 1974. It is housed in Casa Bauró, an old manor house in the Andorran capital, Andorra la Vella. Amongst other functions, it is the legal deposit and copyright library for Andorra.

Andorra and the euro euro coin

Andorra has a monetary agreement with the EU allowing it to make the euro its official currency, and permitting it to issue euro coins from 1 July 2013. They planned to issue their first coins by March or April 2014. On 23 December coins were delivered for pre-booked customers at the Government Administration Building, and actual circulation began on 15 January 2015.
