Andreea Cacovean (born 15 September 1978) is a former Romanian artistic gymnast who competed between 1991 and 1996. [1] [2] She is the 1995 World Champion with the team and the 1993 World bronze medalist on uneven bars. She also won a gold medal with the Romanian team at the 1996 European Championships.

Career

Cacovean made her international debut at the 1991 Junior Balkan Championships, and she won the silver medal in the all-around behind teammate Nadia Hațegan. [3] At the 1992 Junior European Championships, she won the gold medal with the Romanian team and won the silver medal in the all-around. [2]

Cacovean tied for the gold medal in the all-around with Jana Günther at the 1993 Cottbus International, and she won the bronze medal on the floor exercise. [4] She also won the gold medal in the all-around at the Golden Sands International. [5] She placed fifth in the all-around at the International Championships of Romania. [6] Then at the Junior European Championships, she won six medals- a gold medal on the uneven bars, a silver medal in the all-around, a silver medal on the balance beam, a bronze medal with the team, a bronze medal on vault, and a bronze medal on the floor exercise. [7] She competed at the 1993 World Championships and won the bronze medal on the uneven bars behind Americans Shannon Miller and Dominique Dawes. [8]

Cacovean went to a 1994 friendly meet against the United States, but she only competed on the floor exercise. [9] She competed on the floor exercise and the uneven bars at the 1994 World Championships, but she did not advance past the qualification round. [10]

At the 1995 French International, Cacovean won the silver medal in the all-around behind Svetlana Khorkina. [11] She won another silver medal in the all-around at the Ostrava International, this time behind teammate Gina Gogean. [12] At a friendly meet against Germany, she helped the Romanian team win the gold medal, and she finished third in the all-around. [13] She competed at the 1995 World Championships alongside Simona Amânar, Gina Gogean, Nadia Hațegan, Alexandra Marinescu, Lavinia Miloșovici, and Claudia Presăcan, and they won the gold medal in the team event. [14]

Cacovean competed at the 1996 European Championships and won a gold medal with the Romanian team. [15] She retired in 1996 due to a back injury, and she is currently a coach. [16]

Lavinia Corina Miloșovici is a retired Romanian artistic gymnast. An exceptionally successful athlete on the international competition circuit, Miloșovici, also known as "Milo" in the gymnastics community, is considered to be one of Romania's top gymnasts ever and one of the most prolific female all-around medalists ever, earning a total 19 World Championships or Olympic medals in a span of six years. She medalled in every single World Championships meet, Olympic Games and European Championships between 1991 and 1996, and is only the third female gymnast ever, after Larisa Latynina and Věra Čáslavská, to win at least one World Championships or Olympic title on all four events. Miloșovici was also the last gymnast along with Lu Li to ever receive the perfect mark of 10.0 in an Olympic competition and the last to receive the benchmark score of 9.95 at the World Championships. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2011. Her trademarks included her four-event mastery, consistency, longevity, versatile skill set, and leadership abilities.

Daniela Viorica Silivaș-Harper, is a Romanian former artistic gymnast best known for medaling in every single event at one Olympics, winning six medals at the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul. In doing so, she was the fourth female gymnast to achieve this, after Maria Gorokhovskaya (1952), Larisa Latynina and Věra Čáslavská (1968). As of 2024, Silivaș is the last gymnast, male or female, to have accomplished this feat.

Elena Mikhailovna Zamolodchikova is a Russian former artistic gymnast and four-time Olympic medallist. She is the 2000 Olympic champion on vault and floor exercise, and she is a two-time World champion on vault. She also competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics where she won a bronze medal with the Russian team. She is a two-time World Cup Final vault champion and a two-time European champion with the Russian team. In 2015, she was inducted in the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

Oana Mihaela Ban is a retired Romanian artistic gymnast. She is an Olympic gold medalist with the team and a world silver medalist on beam and with the team. Her best events were the floor and the balance beam.

Alexandra Georgiana Eremia is a Romanian former artistic gymnast. Her best apparatus was the balance beam on which she had an interesting routine starting with her trademark split mount. She is an Olympic and a European gold medalist with the team. Individually, she won several medals on beam in various international competitions. She is the 2004 Olympic bronze medalist and the 2004 European silver medalist on this event.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Gina Gogean</span> Romanian artistic gymnast

Gina Elena Gogean is a retired artistic gymnast from Romania who competed internationally in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s. During her career she won an impressive number of 30 medals at Olympic Games, world championships or continental championships. Her best events were the floor exercise, the vault and the balance beam. She was also an excellent all around gymnast winning several medals on this event, the European title in 1994, a silver Olympic medal (1996) and a silver medal at the 1993 World Championships. She helped the Romanian team win three consecutive world titles and two Olympic team medals, a silver and a bronze. Gogean was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2013. Criticized for her lack of artistry and expression, Gogean nonetheless had nearly unmatched consistency, longevity, and efficiency that made her a backbone of the Romanian team in the 1990s.

Individually, she is the 2007 world all-around and beam silver medallist, the 2007 and 2008 European silver medallist on the uneven bars and the 2007 bronze medallist on the balance beam. Nistor was a strong all-around competitor but her best events were balance beam and uneven bars.

Bontaş scored a perfect ten on floor in the all around event of the 1989 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Anamaria "Ana" Tămârjan is a Romanian artistic gymnast. She is a bronze Olympic medalist and a gold European medalist with the team. Individually, she is a European silver medalist on balance beam and a bronze medalist on floor. Her favorite events are the floor and the balance beam.

Natalia Georgiyevna Kalinina, is a former artistic gymnast that competed for the Soviet Union and Ukraine. She was a member of the last Soviet world championship team to win a gold medal in 1991. She was the 1990 European champion on the uneven bars. At the 1990 Goodwill Games, she won a medal on every event with 4 golds and 2 silvers, including the all-around gold medal. She was not selected to compete for the Unified Team at the 1992 Summer Olympics. She believes that politics would only allow three gymnasts to come from one republic, and there were already three gymnasts from Ukraine selected.
