Andrew Willis (born 3 December 1990) is an English former competitive swimmer who has represented Great Britain at the Olympics, the FINA World Championships and the European Championships, and England at the Commonwealth Games. [1]

Career

Early career (2010-2012)

Willis competed at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, where he finished 4th in the 200-metre breaststroke, and in the 2011 World Championships, where he made the final for the same event and finished 8th. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he competed in the men's 200-metre breaststroke, finishing in 3rd place overall in the heats and qualifying for the final where he finished in 8th place. [2] He was one of the very few British swimmers to achieve a personal best at the 2012 Olympics. [3]

Later career (2012-present)

Willis finished 4th in the 2013 World Championships and in the 2013 European Championships (SC) (both in the 200-metre breaststroke). He finished 4th in the 2014 European Championships and went on to win a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the 200-metre breaststroke final in Glasgow. He finished 4th in the 2015 World Championships and won a bronze medal in the 2015 European Championships (SC) in the 200-metre breaststroke. He participated in the 2016 European Championships, and finished 4th in the final of the 200-metre breaststroke in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. He went on to win a silver medal in the 2016 World Championships (SC). Willis made the final for both the 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where he finished 8th and 4th respectively. In July 2018, Willis retired from competitive swimming.[ citation needed ]

Nicholas Gillingham, is an English former competitive swimmer, active in the 1980s and 1990s. Born in Walsall, he represented Great Britain in the Olympics, FINA World championships and European championships, as well as representing England in the Commonwealth Games. Medalling in two Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992, he was a World, European and Commonwealth champion in his specialist event, the 200 metres breaststroke. His career broadly overlapped with fellow British breaststroker and Olympic 100 metre breaststroke champion, Adrian Moorhouse.

Alia Shanee Atkinson, СD is a Jamaican five-time Olympian and a former competitive swimmer whose international competition career spanned 19 years, 2003 to 2021 inclusive, at the senior level. At short course World Swimming Championships, she is a ten-time medalist in individual events, including four gold medals, four silver medals, and two bronze medals. She won a total of 124 medals, of which 74 were gold medals, at Swimming World Cup circuits over the course of her career. Susannah Claire "Suki" Brownsdon is an English former competitive swimmer who won a silver medal in the women's 100-metre breaststroke at the 1981 European Championships, and represented Great Britain at four consecutive Olympic Games, with her best results being sixth place in the 100-metre breaststroke final in 1980 and seventh place in the 200-metre breaststroke final in 1984. He currently represents Energy Standard in the International Swimming League. James Wilby is a British competitive swimmer who specialises in the breaststroke. Wilby is the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion in 200 metre breaststroke, the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion in 100 metre breaststroke, and the 2022 European champion in 200 metre breaststroke. He formed part of the Great Britain team that won World Championship gold in the men's 4 x 100 metre medley relay in 2019, and the England team that won the Commonwealth Games Men's 4 x 100 metre medley relay in 2014 and 2022.

Anastasia "Nastiya" Gorbenko is an Israeli competitive swimmer. She competes in the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and medley. She has won 8 World and European championships gold medals, competed at 2 Olympic finals, broken most of the Israeli national records for women and mixed relays, and is considered to be Israel's greatest swimmer of all time. In February 2024, Gorbenko won a silver medal at the Doha World Championships in the women's 400 meters individual medley. Gorbenko represented Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in swimming in the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 400m individual medley, 4x200m freestyle relay, and mixed 4x100m medley relay.
