Anil Kant, a retired Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officer, served as the State Police Chief and Director General of Police of Kerala. [1] [2] [3] He was the former Road Safety Commissioner in Kerala. He is the first Dalit officer on the chief post in the police department of Kerala. Kant is from Delhi. [4]

Kant is married to Preeta Harit and has a son Rohan. [6] He is son of Late Rumal Singh and Shankuntala.

Career

Kant is a 1988 batch IPS officer. He started his career in the Kerala cadre as an assistant superintendent in Kalpetta, in Wayanad district. He also served in Thiruvananthapuram rural and Railway in the same position. Provided distinguished services as Kochi City Police Commissioner and SP in Malappuram, Ernakulam, as also served in State Crime Branch and Special Branch as IG. [7]

He also served as the chief of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Prisons and Correctional Services and Fire and Rescue Services. [4] [5]

Prior to being appointed as the DGP of the Kerala Police, he served as Road Safety Commissioner. He was chosen by Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, after a cabinet meeting. [8]

Notably, Kant made history as the first Dalit officer to hold the esteemed chief post within the Kerala police department. [9]

Awards

Kant was awarded the President's Police Medal for meritorious services and also received Badge of Honour in 2018 for the successful conduct of All India Police Games. [5]

The Superintendent of Police Officer alias Senior Superintendent of Police Officer alias Deputy Commissioner of Police Officer (S.P) alias (S.S.P) alias (D.C.P) is a rank in Indian police forces held by an officer who typically heads a rural police district. Other officers of the same rank may lead specialised wings or units. In cities under commissionerate system, an SP and SSP may serve as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) under the Commissioner of Police. The SP reports directly to the district magistrate (collector), the administrative head of a revenue district, who has general control and direction over police administration. Additionally, an SP sends monthly reports to the Director General of Police (DGP) via the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).

B. Sandhya is a retired officer of the Indian Police Service and a former Director General of the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services, Home Guard, and Civil Defence. She is also known for her literary contributions which have won her a number of awards including the Edasseri Award in 2007. She retired from the service with the rank of Director General of Police on May 31, 2023.

Nikhil Kumar is a former IPS officer-turned politician hailing from Bihar who was Governor of Nagaland from 2009 to 2013 and Governor of Kerala from 2013 to 2014. One of country's well knownIPS officers of 1963 batch from the AGMUT Cadre Kumar also served as DGP of the National Security Guards, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Railway Protection Force and Commissioner of Delhi Police. He was elected member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India from 2004 to 2009, representing the Aurangabad constituency in Bihar as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He also served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology.

Rahul Sharma is an ex Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Gujarat cadre turned practicing lawyer with Gujarat High Court. He was inducted into the service in 1992. He played a crucial role in policing operations during the 2002 Gujarat riots. He was seconded to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2004, and served there for the next three years. Later, he served as the DIG at Rajkot, Gujarat until seeking voluntary retirement from active service in 2015.

Nayattu is a 2021 Indian political survival thriller film directed and co-produced by Martin Prakkat and written by Shahi Kabir. It stars Kunchako Boban, Joju George, and Nimisha Sajayan in the lead roles and features Jaffar Idukki, Anil Nedumangad, and Hakkim Shajahan in supporting roles. Mahesh Narayanan and Rajesh Rajenndran edited the film while Shyju Khalid handled the cinematography. Vishnu Vijay composed the original music and background score. Director Ranjith and P. M. Robin Hibu is a serving IPS officer of 1993 (47RR) batch of AGMUT cadre. Hibu is currently posted as Special Commissioner of Police at Delhi Armed Police. Hibu was also the CSO at Rastrapati Bhavan. Hibu also holds the position as managing director at Delhi Police Housing Corporation.
