Anna Dacyshyn is a Canadian former diver, who won the 10 metre platform event at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, and won six national championships. In 2010, she was inaugurated into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame.

Career

Dacyshyn trained at the University of Alberta, [1] the Kinsmen Sports Centre, [2] and later at the University of Toronto. [3] As a youngster, Dacyshyn won the Girls 15–17 platform, 1 metre and 3 metre diving events at the 1984 British Columbia Diving Championships. [4] In 1985, she won a silver medal in the tower event at the Pan American Invitational Diving Championships. [1] In 1986, at the age of 16, she won the tower event at the Canadian Amateur Diving Association national championships. [2] In the same year, she won her age group platform event at the Western Hemisphere Age-Group Diving Championships. [5] In 1989, she came second in the 10 metre tower event at the national championships. [6]

At the 1990 Commonwealth Games, Dacyshyn won the 10 metre platform event. [3] [7] She had been a favourite to win the event, [3] and was one of two Canadians to win a gold medal in diving at the Games. [7] At the 1991 World Aquatics Championships, she came 11th in the 10 metre platform event. [8] That year, she also came fourth in the 10 metre platform event at the FINA Diving World Cup. [9]

In total, Dacyshyn won six Canadian national championships. [10]

Post-career

After retiring from diving, Dacyshyn studied how retirement affects female sportspeople. [11] In 1996, she was a founder of the Central Toronto Diving Club. [10] In 2010, she was inaugurated into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame. [10]

Personal life

Dacyshyn is from Edmonton, Canada. [3] She has a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in exercise physiology, both from the University of Toronto. [12] Her husband Jeff Hirst is also a former diver, who was inducted into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. [10]

Reuben Ross is a Canadian diver. He won a gold medal in the men's 3m or 3m synchronized events at the Canadian Nationals from 2008-2011. Ross competed in the individual 3m springboard and 10m platform events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the 3m springboard synchronized event with Alexandre Despatie.

Jennifer Abel is a Canadian former diver. She is currently partnered with Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu for synchronized diving. She won an Olympic bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 3 m synchro diving event with Émilie Heymans and a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the same event with Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu. Abel is a four-time Commonwealth Games champion in the 1 m and 3 m synchronized springboard; and is also a three-time Pan American Games champion in the 3 m springboard and 3 m synchronized springboard. Her ten medals at the FINA World Championships are a record for most medals by a Canadian in diving at the world championships.

Cynthia "Cindy" Shatto was a Canadian diver. She won a gold medal in the 1974 British Commonwealth Games 3 metre springboard event and competed in the women's 10 metre platform event at the 1976 Summer Olympics, where she finished fifth following controversy over the judges' scoring.

Qiu Bo is a Chinese diver. He won the silver medal in the 10 metre platform event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He is a four-time world champion at the World Aquatics Championships, winning the gold medal three times in the 10m platform event, consecutively in 2011, 2013 and 2015, and winning the gold medal in the synchronized 10m event in 2011.

Lois Mae Toulson is a British diver. A specialist in the 10 metre platform, she won the gold medal at the inaugural European Games in 2015, and the senior European title in 2017. She competed in the women's synchronized ten metre platform event at the 2016 Summer Olympics with Tonia Couch. She won silver in mixed 10m platform synchro at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships with Matty Lee, and gold in the women's synchronized 10 metre platform at the 2018 European Aquatics Championships with Eden Cheng.

Wendy Lian Williams is a retired American diver. She won a bronze medal in the 10 metres platform event at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Additional medals that Williams won include a gold at the 1989 FINA Diving World Cup and a bronze at the 1991 World Aquatics Championships. After ending her diving career in 1992, she worked for NBC as a sports commentator.

Noah Oliver Williams is an English diver who represents Great Britain and specialises in the 10 metre platform event. He has won silver medals in the 10 metre synchro platform with Matthew Dixon at the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.

Deborah Wilson is an American diver. Wilson originally competed in springboard diving before moving on to platform diving. As a platform diver, she was first at the 1973 Amateur Athletic Union national diving championships. She participated in the 1973 World Aquatics Championships and 1975 World Aquatics Championships but did not medal in either championship. In international competitions, Wilson won a bronze medal in the women's 10 metre platform event at the 1976 Summer Olympics.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Millie Hudson</span> British diver, swimmer, sports journalist

Millie Hudson was a British diver, open water swimmer, diving coach, and sports journalist. She competed in the women's 3 metre springboard event at the 1924 Summer Olympics. In 1927, she attempted to swim across the English Channel, but had to abandon her attempt after 13 hours in the water. In 1928, she attempted to cross the Strait of Gibraltar, but failed after 8.5 hours due to rough waters. After retiring from long-distance swimming, she continued to coach, and trained British Olympic springboard diver Esme Harris. Hudson was the swimming correspondent for the Evening Standard in London, and became the first woman to be admitted to the Sports Writers' Association in 1949.

Jeffrey Hirst is a Canadian diver. He competed in the men's 10 metre platform event at the 1988 Summer Olympics. He also competed at the 1982 and 1986 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 1983, 1985 and 1987 Summer Universiades. In 2002, Hirst was inducted into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix</span> British diver (born 2004)

Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix is a British professional diver. In her breakthrough year of 2022, she became a World junior, two-time European senior, two-time Commonwealth Games and two-time national senior champion across 10 metre platform and 10 metre synchronised platform events, as well as a World senior medalist in the team event.

Anna Aleksandrovna Konanykhina is a Russian diver. In 2021, she won the gold medal in the women's 10 m platform event at the 2020 European Aquatics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.

Linda Cuthbert is a Canadian former diver and present sports director of Commonwealth Sport Canada since 2006, having also served as a technical official for several commonwealth games. During her diving career, Cuthbert won a bronze medal in each of the 1975 and 1979 Pan American Games platform diving events, as well as a gold medal in the 1978 Commonwealth Games 10 metre highboard event. Cuthbert began diving at age 10 and started to take it seriously in 1967, when she had a series of different coaches until settling with Don Webb, who became her permanent coach.

Jennifer McArton is a former Canadian diver. During the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, she won a silver medal in the women's 10 metre highboard event.

Aranza Vázquez Montaño is a Mexican diver. She represented Mexico at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the individual 3-metre springboard.

Nikita Hains is an Australian diver who competes in the 10m individual events, as well as the 10m synchronised.
