A Gastrostomy is the creation of an artificial external opening into the stomach for nutritional support or gastric decompression. Typically this would include an incision in the patient's epigastrium as part of a formal operation. When originally devised over a century ago the procedure was completed through open surgery using the Stamm technique. It can be performed through surgical approach, percutaneous approach by interventional radiology, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) or percutaneous ultrasound gastrostomy (PUG).
An imperforate anus or anorectal malformations (ARMs) are birth defects in which the rectum is malformed. ARMs are a spectrum of different congenital anomalies which vary from fairly minor lesions to complex anomalies. The cause of ARMs is unknown; the genetic basis of these anomalies is very complex because of their anatomical variability. In 8% of patients, genetic factors are clearly associated with ARMs. Anorectal malformation in Currarino syndrome represents the only association for which the gene HLXB9 has been identified.
The International Journal of Surgery (IJS), formerly known as The Journal of Surgery, is a peer-reviewed medical journal of surgery established in 2003. The journal has been published by Elsevier since 2005. The journal is affiliated with the Association of Surgeons in Training, the New York Surgical Society and with the Chinese chapter of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association. The journal is published monthly, and articles become open-access after an embargo period of 12 months.
Ain Shams University, Faculty of Medicine or School of Medicine, is a public Egyptian graduate school and one of the faculties of Ain Shams University. Now, it is one of the largest educational medical institutions in Africa and the Middle East. It was founded in 1947, making it the third oldest medical school in Egypt. It has promoted numerous programs of medical care to serve society, in addition to environmental development and continuous scientific research for local and international health. It became part of Ain Shams University in the 1950s, when it was established after adding several faculty members. Each year the faculty holds an annual conference dedicated to the recent advances in medical science.

Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, established in 1860 as Archiv für Klinische Chirurgie by founding editor Bernhard von Langenbeck, is the oldest medical journal of surgery in the world. It is the official journal of several European surgical societies: German Society of Surgery, German Society of General and Visceral Surgery, German Association of Endocrine Surgeons, European Society of Endocrine Surgeons, and the German, Austrian and Swiss Surgical Associations for Minimal Invasive Surgery. The journal is currently published by Springer Science+Business Media and the editor-in-chief is Markus W. Büchler. The journal was original published in German, but is exclusively in English since 1998, when it obtained its current English title.
Stanley John was an Indian cardiothoracic surgeon, a former professor at the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and one of the pioneers of cardiothoracic surgery in India. He is reported to have performed the first surgical repairs of Ebstein's anomaly, Ruptured Sinus of Valsalva (RSOV) and Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) in India. He assisted in performing the first open heart surgery in India while working at CMCH. During his tenure of 25 years at the institution, he mentored several known surgeons such as V.V. Bashi, A. G. K. Gokhale, J. S. N. Murthy and Ganesh Kumar Mani. Later, John joined Yellamma Dasappa Hospital, Bengaluru at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1975. He served as the 13th President of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) between 1982 and 1983.
The American Pediatric Surgical Association is an American professional organization dedicated to pediatric surgery. It was established in 1970 and had over 1,200 members as of 2015. Its official journal is the Journal of Pediatric Surgery.

The Kyoto Declaration of Pediatric Surgery, written in 2001, established the mission of the Federation to focus on the development and education of surgeons serving children, in all parts of the world.
