Annemieke Marileen Bes (born 16 March 1978, in Groningen) is a sailor from the Netherlands, [1] [2] who represented her country for the first time at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The Dutch Yngling helmed by Annelies Thies and crewed by Bes and Petronella de Jong took the 4th place. [3] [4] [5] Bes returned to the Olympics, again in the Dutch Yngling, [6] [7] during the 2008 Olympics this time with fellow crewmember Merel Witteveen and helmsman Mandy Mulder. The Dutch Yngling team took the Silver Medal [8] in Qingdao. Bes than switched to the Elliott 6m Match racing. During the 2012 Olympics the team with helmsman Renee Groeneveld and crewmembers Bes and Marcelien Bos-de Koning [9] [10] took 8th place [11] in Weymouth.

Sailing career

Bes started sailing in 1990 and has competed at International level since 1999 where she started in the Europe class. Her best finishes were second at the Dutch Championship in 2000, seventh at the Semaine Olympique Hyères in 2001 and at the World championship open week that year. By the end of 2001 she switched to the Yngling class. In her first season in the Yngling class she and her team mates Petronella de Jong and Annelies Thies became second in the Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca. The following year she finished fifth at the Spa Regatta in Medemblik as well as fourth in the pre-Olympic event in Athens. 2004 proved to be a successful year and they won the Athens Eurolymp Week as well as the Princess Sofia Trophy. They sailed to a seventh position at the World Championships in Santander and a sixth position at the Spa Regatta, which earned them a spot at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

In 2007 a team was formed of nine sailors, (among them were Mandy Mulder, Annemieke Bes, Merel Witteveen, Renée Groeneveld, Marije Faber, Marije Kampen and Brechtje van der Werf), that aimed and qualify for the Olympics in the Yngling. In July 2008 Dutch national coach Maurice Paardekooper selected Witteveen, Mulder and Bes as the trio that would sail the Dutch Yngling team at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The selected team became fourth at the World Championship in Cascais. Furthermore, they became second in Qingdao at the Pre-Olympics, fourth at the European Championship in Warnemünde in 2007. In 2008 there was a third place in the Olympic Class Regatta of Miami And a third place at the Europeans.

With Renée Groeneveld and Brechtje van der Werf she started to sail in the new Olympic women class, The Elliott 6m Match racing class. They finished fourth at the Kiel Week Worldcup, second at the Europeans and they won the Sail for Gold Worldcup in Weymouth in September 2009 and the Prinses Sofia Worldcup event in April 2010. However this team did not qualify for the Olympics. After a team was formed with Bes, Marcelien Bos-de Koning and Mandy Mulder the qualification for the 2012 olympics was made.

In the 2017-18 edition, Bes competed in the Volvo Ocean Race on Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag, skippered by Aussie David Witt. The team finished in (joint) last place, alongside Dee Caffari's Turn the Tide on Plastic.

Dercksen as crew in the Dutch Tornado with Ron van Teylingen as helmsman took the 9th place. In 2004 Dercksen returned to the Olympics in Athens. This time with Helmsman Mitch Booth Dercksen took 5th place in the Tornado.

The Netherlands competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, People's Republic of China. This was announced in an official statement on the NOC*NSF website. In the statement they named the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games as a highlight in sports to which a lot of sportspeople, coaches and the Dutch sports fans would look forward. The Netherlands aimed for a top 10 nations ranking in the Olympics as well as a top 25 ranking in the Paralympics; they ended up ranking 12th at the Games.

With crew member Lobke Berkhout Bos-de Koning took the silver medal as helmsman in the Women's 470. Bos-de Koning returned as crew member to the 2012 Olympic match regatta's in Weymouth in the Elliott 6m. With helmsman Renee Groeneveld and fellow crew member Annemieke Bes Bos-de Koning took 8th place.

Rutger van Schaardenburg is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country for the first time at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Qingdao. There he took the 34th place in the Laser class. Van Schaardenburg's second Olympic appearance was during the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. In this competition Van Schaardenburg took 14th place. He competed again in the laser class at the 2016 Olympics, finishing in 9th place.

Kalle Kristian Coster is a sailor from the Netherlands. Coster represented his country for the first time at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With his brother Sven Coster as helmsman, Coster took 6th place as crew in the Dutch Men's 470. Coster's second Olympic appearance was during the 2008 Olympics in Qingdao again as crew in the Men's 470 with his brother as helmsman. Coster took the 4th place. Again with Sven as helmsman in the Men's 470 Coster crewed the Dutch 470 at the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. The brothers finished in 12th place.

Sven Erik Coster is a sailor from the Netherlands. Coster represented his country for the first time at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With his brother Kalle Coster as crew Coster took 6th place as helmsman in the Dutch Men's 470. Coster's second Olympic appearance was during the 2008 Olympics in Qingdao again as helmsman in the 470 and his brother as crew, Coster took the 4th place. Also with Kalle as crew in the 470 Coster helmed the Dutch 470 at the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. The brothers finished on the 12th place.

Pim Nieuwenhuis is a sailor from the Netherlands. Nieuwenhuis as crew on the Dutch Tornado with Mitch Booth as helmsman took 5th place in the Tornado during the 2008 Olympics, in Qingdao.

Mark Jacobus Louis Neeleman is a sailor from the Netherlands. Since the Netherlands did boycott the Moscow Olympic Games Neeleman represented his National Olympic Committee at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Tallinn, USSR under the Dutch NOC flag. Neeleman took 8th place in the 1980 Summer Olympics, which was boycotted by several countries. In 1984 Summer Olympics, Los Angeles Neeleman did a second attempt in the Finn and finished on the 9th place. Neeleman missed the selection for the 1988 Olympics, Pusan.

Renée Groeneveld is a sailor from the Netherlands. Groeneveld represented her country at the 2012 Summer Olympics in Weymouth. With fellow crew members Annemieke Bes and Marcelien Bos-de Koning, Groeneveld as helmsman took 8th place in the Elliott 6m match race event.

Jacob Dirk "Jaap" Zielhuis is a sailor from the Netherlands. Zielhuis represented his country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Zielhuis took 19th place in the Finn. During the Sydney Olympics 2000 Zielhuis was coach of the Dutch Olympic Sailing Team.

Antonia Allagonna Elizabeth "Annelies" Thies is a sailor from the Netherlands. Thies represented her country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With crew members Annemieke Bes en Petronella de Jong Thies took 4th place in the Yngling.

Petronella Catharina de Jong is a sailor from the Netherlands. De Jong represented her country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With helmsman Annelies Thies and fellow crew member Annemieke Bes De Jong took 4th place in the Yngling.
