Herbert Willem Constant Dercksen (1 March 1973, Gouda) is a sailor from the Netherlands, [1] who represented his country for the first time at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Savannah. Dercksen as crew in the Dutch Tornado with Ron van Teylingen as helmsman took the 9th place. In 2004 Dercksen returned to the Olympics in Athens. [2] This time with Helmsman Mitch Booth Dercksen took 5th place in the Tornado. [3] [4]

1994 – 1998

In 1994 Dercksen became Dutch champion in the Europe and a year later he won the Dutch title in the Tornado alongside Ron van Teylingen (helmsman). Their second Dutch championship together followed in 1997, while the team successfully defended their title in 1998. After that victory Dercksen switched to the Formula 18. [5]

1999 – 2004

In the Formula 18 class Dercksen partnered with Mitch Booth, an Australian who was nationality later was transferred to Dutch. They participated at the 1999 European Championships Formula 18 and won the title immediately. They also participate in the Australian national championships where the team took the Championship in 2000. That same year they became World champion Formula 18. They successfully defended their World title Formula 18 in 2001 and 2002 before they switched to the Olympic Tornado class. They took a bronze medal at the Tornado 2002 World Championship and a silver at the European Championship that same year. Besides participation in the 2004 Olympics. Booth & Dercksen won a silver medal at the 2004 F18 World Championship and a gold medal at the 2004 Tornado European Championship. In 2005 Booth and Dercksen won a bronze at the 2005 European Tornado Championship. [5]

End of the Olympic career

In 2006 both sailors decided to go their own way and participated at the 2006 Tornado World Championship. Dercksen managed to win the sixth race with his team mate Mischa Heemskerk and finishing 26th overall. [6] Dercksen decided in early 2007 to end his career at the highest level of Catamaran sailing. Dercksen continues sailing in the Formula 18 class, however at a lower level. [7]

Annemieke Marileen Bes is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented her country for the first time at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The Dutch Yngling helmed by Annelies Thies and crewed by Bes and Petronella de Jong took the 4th place. Bes returned to the Olympics, again in the Dutch Yngling, during the 2008 Olympics this time with fellow crewmember Merel Witteveen and helmsman Mandy Mulder. The Dutch Yngling team took the Silver Medal in Qingdao. Bes than switched to the Elliott 6m Match racing. During the 2012 Olympics the team with helmsman Renee Groeneveld and crewmembers Bes and Marcelien Bos-de Koning took 8th place in Weymouth.

Kalle Kristian Coster is a sailor from the Netherlands. Coster represented his country for the first time at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With his brother Sven Coster as helmsman, Coster took 6th place as crew in the Dutch Men's 470. Coster's second Olympic appearance was during the 2008 Olympics in Qingdao again as crew in the Men's 470 with his brother as helmsman. Coster took the 4th place. Again with Sven as helmsman in the Men's 470 Coster crewed the Dutch 470 at the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. The brothers finished in 12th place.

Sven Erik Coster is a sailor from the Netherlands. Coster represented his country for the first time at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With his brother Kalle Coster as crew Coster took 6th place as helmsman in the Dutch Men's 470. Coster's second Olympic appearance was during the 2008 Olympics in Qingdao again as helmsman in the 470 and his brother as crew, Coster took the 4th place. Also with Kalle as crew in the 470 Coster helmed the Dutch 470 at the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. The brothers finished on the 12th place.

Mitchell Jay "Mitch" Booth is a sailor from Australia, who represented his native country for the first time at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Booth as helmsman in the Australian Tornado with John Forbes as crew took Bronze. In 1996, Booth made a second appearance this time with crew member Andrew Landenberger the team took the Silver in the Tornado. In 2004, Athens Booth represented the Netherlands as helmsman of the Dutch Tornado. With crew member Herbert Dercksen Booth took 5th place. His final Olympic appearance came during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Qingdao. Now with crew member Pim Nieuwenhuis in the Dutch Tornado, Booth finished 5th.

In 1984 Summer Olympics, Los Angeles Neeleman did a second attempt in the Finn and finished on the 9th place. Neeleman missed the selection for the 1988 Olympics, Pusan.

Roy Heiner is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Pusan. Heiner took 7th place in the Finn. In 1992 Summer Olympics, Barcelona Heiner helmed the Dutch Soling. With crew members Peter Burggraaff and Han Bergsma Heiner took 18th place. Heiner switched back to the Finn for the 1996 Summer Olympics, Savannah and took the bronze medal. His last Olympic appearance was in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Nicolaas Pieter "Nick" de Jong is a retired sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Enoshima. De Jong, as crew on the Dutch Flying Dutchman Daisy (H157), took the 6th place with helmsman Ben Verhagen. During the 1968 Summer Olympics in Acapulco he crewed Daisy (H187), again with helmsman Ben Verhagen to and an 18th place in the Flying Dutchman. For the 1972 Olympics De Jong made the switch from the Flying Dutchman to crew on the Soling with helmsman Heiki Blok and Rolf Kurpershoek. This team was nominated for the games by the KNWV. The nomination however did not resulted in a selection by the Dutch NOC.

Again with his brother as helmsman and Frank Hettinga as crew. Potma took 15th place in the Soling.

Ronald Nico "Ron" van Teylingen is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Van Teylingen as helmsman in the Dutch Tornado with Paul Manuel as crew took the 6th place. Four years later at the 1996 Olympics in Savannah with crew Herbert Dercksen Van Teylingen took 9th place again in the Tornado.

With Roy Heiner as helmsman and Dirk de Ridder as fellow crew member, Van Niekerk took the 4th place in the Soling. In the 2004 Olympics in Athena Van Niekerk made his second Olympic appearance. This time in the Star with Mark Neeleman as helmsman. They took 14th place.

Jacob Dirk "Jaap" Zielhuis is a sailor from the Netherlands. Zielhuis represented his country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Zielhuis took 19th place in the Finn. During the Sydney Olympics 2000 Zielhuis was coach of the Dutch Olympic Sailing Team.

Petronella Catharina de Jong is a sailor from the Netherlands. De Jong represented her country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. With helmsman Annelies Thies and fellow crew member Annemieke Bes De Jong took 4th place in the Yngling.
